The original Back to the Future is one of the rare movie examples of a major recast, after having some footage shot.

They shot two months worth of film with Eric Stoltz in the lead, until they realized that he wasn't the Marty McFly they were looking for. In January 1985, they started over from scratch, with a new lead: Michael J. Fox (Alex P. Keaton from Family Ties), this time with better results.

A few long shots with Stoltz as Marty McFly still exist in the film, according to Bob Zemeckis and Bob Gale.

Hard to imagine anybody but Michael J Fox as Marty McFly! He was perfection!

Wow, hard to believe it's been that long. I was 15 when it was released, saw it in the theater twice. Now at 45 I still enjoy it just as much.

I love this movie and I was FIXING to get a videodisc player just so i could see the first one in its original analog format and thankfully I FOUND A VHS COPY @ SALVATION ARMY!!!!! (Recorded from analogue TV (HBO) on 4/1/87 (And no.... ITS NO APRIL FOOLS JOKE...... Its absolutely georgeous))


Now im trying to get THE GOONIES in 100% analogue!! (Ah man!!)

Dude111, I believe examples of this are the shot of Marty diving into the Delorean during the Libyan attack, as well as the brief shot of Marty hitting Biff in the 1955 Lou's Cafe.

Though the sequel was released in 1988...what things are accurate in 2015 with BTTFII?
