You know how on some shows the audience cheers and applauds when an actor comes into the scene. What are some you can think of?
Here's a few...
Married ... With Children (all the main characters beginning in season four)
It's Garry Shandling's Show (Garry through out the whole show)
Chico and the Man (all the main characters through out the whole show)
The Honeymooners (all the main characters for most of the show)

In the later seasons of Family Matters, all the actors would get cheered for.
In the Boy Meets World episode "Wheels", some lady in the audience shouts "You go girl!" to Topanga when she gets her princess balloon hat.

Kramer, of course.
The directors and producers actually didn't like this. They would stop taping so they didn't have to edit it out. The cheering went on for to long which would disturb the length of the show.

JJ and Sweet Daddy Williams' entrances on Good Times. Also Wilona would get big cheers when she left.

I had a tendency to cheer when Wilona left too since I was always glad to see her leave.

In an episode of Frasier called Something Borrowed, Someone Blue; Niles finally admits his feelings for Daphne and tells her flat out that he loves her right to her face. Now there weren't any cheers after he said it but there were some audible gasps from the audience. I was a bit surprised after watching it for the first time and hearing that. Frasier has never been big with the audience cheering and stuff. There is a lot of laughter of course but that's really it. So hearing the audible gasps come from the audience was surprising but now when I go back and watch it, it's not that big of a deal because now I understand why the audience reacted that way.
We had all been waiting 6 years for Niles to finally tell Daphne that he loved her and when he finally did, it was like "Wow". :D
Something similar happened on an earlier episode "Back Talk" when Frasier was doped up on pain medication for his back, Daphne was giving him a massage. He was lying on his bed and Daphne was talking to him, he was so out of it that when Daphne asked what Martin was referring to when he said "It had been going on for six years now, what did he mean by that?"
Frasier who was completely out of it said: "He meant Niles, he's crazy about you."
The look on Daphne's face after he said it and then the audience's reaction was spot on. You could hear a very loud and audible "OH" after he said it. I will admit I had the same reaction too. :)
Those are the two I can think of. Most of the others have been mentioned already.
I know that the audience went crazy every time Fonzie would appear on Happy Days and when Jazz first appeared on Fresh Prince the audience went crazy then too. I know when Burt Reynolds appeared on The Golden Girls the audience went crazy, the same when Julio Iglesias appeared.
Now I understand why some shows prefer to have a closed set so stuff like that doesn't happen. But it's still entertaining nonetheless. ;)

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Happy Days. It seemed to happen for more of the actors later on, but when they first brought in the studio audience in S3, they did it for Henry Winkler, then later, Scott Baio.
Larry, Darryl and Darryl on Newhart got wild applause every time they entered.
In a few season two episodes of WKRP, Jennifer and Johnny got applause. I can't remember where I read this, but the producers noted they were not big fans of this practice.
What annoyed me more was when on Happy Days and Family Matters, Fonzie and Urkel would not only get applause on the first entrance, but during a subsequent entrance in the same episode. I vaguely remember seeing this on Married...with Children a few times as well.
