Do you have good blood pressure, or is it high or low?

I've always had really good blood pressure, except the last two times I've gone to the dentist. Today I went and my blood pressure was 110/83. The 110 is good, but the 83 is high. The lower number is usually 70 for me.
I don't want to get high blood pressure. My mother seemed surprised about the lower number. She said I might want to keep an eye on it.

I'm overweight (240) and diabetic yet my BP is always in normal range (110/70) when I go to the Dr.
I also take one chewable 81mg aspirin each day which helps.

OMG . Mine too!!! On my Dad's side! I had an uncle die when he was in his early 50's (like my age) of a heart attack in his sleep, he never said he didn't fell well, he looked fine and wasn't like totally over weight or anything! !! I was a little girl and it freaked me out! As we all (my family) look back now we are thinking he probably had off the chart high blood pressure that he didn't even know about cause it was back in the day and most likely didn't even know of his blood pressure because he wasn't seeing a doctor regularly ! My Dad was only in his 30's at the time and my Uncle was that much older than my Dad cause my Grandma had LOTS of kids in the span of 20 years! ;)

Now years later, I am around the age of my Uncle and I have the high blood pressure, and anxiety problems AND menopause!:( Thank God we know more about modern medicine and seeking medical help or I would most likely end up like my Uncle soon! :(

I have high blood pressure, and have been on meds since I was 20. I'm not overweight or anything, so I'm pretty sure it's genetic.

My doctor said that is the best medication for blood pressure for a person that isn't real old. My Father is on a different kind. Do you have any side affects from the Amlodipine? At first it made me kind of loopy, than I got used to it, but it makes my feet swollen which I don't like! And I called it to my doctors attention and he didn't seem concerned! IDK!

I had just seen my dentist too and she said my BP was rather high and while I haven't seen a doctor in ages which I will soon she thought it might be my nerves because of being at the dentist.

For the record I hadn't seen a dentist in 12 years and while I didnt have any cavities I had lots of tartar build-up

I think that 83 on the bottom is "borderline" normal...and if the doctor had taken the pressure again in five minutes it might have dropped.

Lots of things factor into it, including just being nervous about going to the doctor. I had a reading of 92 on the bottom once last year, at a time when I was extremely upset about something. However in the several times I have been back it's been 80 each time. I've had mine come out as 60 on the bottom, too.

My doctor kind of implied that it's only when the pressure is consistently high that it becomes a problem. My girlfriend went to the doctor for something completely unrelated last year and hers was 91 on the bottom and nobody batted an eye. My guess is that if it was that high several times in a row, they might have been more concerned.

I wouldn't worry about it that much. You are going regularly to the doctor and doing just what you should be. If you trust your doctor, trust in his ability. If he's concerned, he'll act.

It is common for your blood pressure to go up at the doctor's office. But have them take it before you leave too. Mine was always normal until last year or so. But I went off the Vitamin C. I went back to taking 500mg twice a day and it is back to normal. Also buy a blood pressure kit so you can monitor it at home.

Yeah, checking it at home it always comes up lower than at the doctor! Also I mean, that machine is like squeezing your arm!!! It's uncomfortable! Of course that is going to make your blood pressure higher when something is making you go ouch!! They need to invent another way of taking blood pressure!!! ;)

Mine is "on the high side of normal" or so my doctor tells me.

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm always nervous at the dentist. I get nervous at the doctor too.
I know there are different kinds of blood pressure machines. Some of them get very tight.

Yes ! They seem tighter too than they did years ago! And seems like they keep it on your arm longer? IDK maybe I'm imagining it, but the blood pressure machine test seems worse and more uncomfortable now than it did when I was younger! :(

I got high blood pressure and I haven't taken my medication in awhile. I don't have that many pills left. I hope I don't have high blood pressure when I get old because my doctor told me if I still have it when I'm old, I can have health problems. I could lose my eyesight and I would hate for that to happen.

You better take the medication if your blood pressure is still high. You need to find out if it is , and get your prescription refilled. Hopefully you were able to get it to go down to normal naturally but if not, you MUST take the medicine. Not just when your old, at any age if your blood pressure gets too high you could have a stroke or heart attack. I'm serious! I have high blood pressure under control with meds. So I know what I'm talking about. Go to the doctor or any clinic and get your blood pressure taken and if nec go back on your meds SOON!!!! If you have no money something like that is so necessary you can work it out to get it free or not for very much money! ;)

Listen to Mama Bonnie here, I am old and wise about certain things! :)

Alright thanks. I'll go to CVS and get a refill. I had been going to CVS and using their blood pressure machine but everytime I would take my blood pressure, it would be high. But when I went to the doctor and the nurse took my blood pressure, it wasn't that high. So I don't trust using CVS blood pressure machine.
