View Full Version : I'm surprised this scene was not awkward since John Ritter was in his mid 30's and...

the young girl who played Julie in the episode........"Janet's Little Helper" was only 19 at the time sitting on John's lap on the couch

And the same thing with Joyce since she was mid 30ish in this episode and the guy who played Marc was only 19 too.

I thought the girl was playing the role of a young girl but she was actually 19 with her arm around John's neck while sitting on his lap. lol

Janet was helping Mr. Furley nephew gain confidence and then Terri arranged for a girl to come from her job to meet Mark but when Jack opened the door the young girl thought Jack was Mark and started coming on to him:lol:

Julie was a first season Facts of Life cast member, and Mark ended up on Head of the Class.

Oh, okay, I only vaguely remember that episode. I do remember the boy was really cute! I think he had a crush on Janet, and I was thinking that Janet was one lucky lady to have a cutie like that fall for her! I don't remember the young girl coming on to Jack.

OK, I remember Sue Ann Weaver from The Facts of Life... pretty girl, kinda bucky teeth though. She did have pretty hair, too.

One of the most awkward episodes is "The Crush" in Season 3, when the Ropers' 13-yr-old niece/relative visits the trio and sends a fake telegram to Janet and Chrissy to get Jack alone. The little girl then tells Jack she loves him, etc etc, and tries to convince him that age doesn't matter. It's just really awkward. Her catch-phrase is the very creepy, "I just love it when a man is forceful!" She says it a couple times. I think it was supposed to be funny, but it creeped me out.

I chalk it up to the writers not knowing how to write for little kids. The few Three's Company episodes that featured young children were not that great. And we usually end up hating the little brats!

As Garry Marshall has been quoted in relation to Ritchie Petrie, writers often hated writing for kids. I guess they don't know how to write for them, and they can be more "adult" with adult cast members. As far as Three's Company is concerned, I've read that Cindy was not considered as a permanent roommate because of her relative youth (Jenilee Harrison was 21 when she started on the show.), so she was replaced by Terri, who was older (Priscilla Barnes was 25.) as the 3rd roommate later.

Yes, I think they hired Jennilee Harrison because she was so young and green---the producers wanted someone inexperienced with minimal leverage in Hollywood in order to avoid a Suzanne Somers situation again. But she was SO young and green that she was a poor actress and seemed too young for Jack to make sexy jokes with to boot.

Priscilla was a little more experienced but didn't have a lot of "star power," so the producers weren't afraid of her asking for too much.
