TVFactFan 06-19-2015, 11:57 PM Alex was a nerdy and awkward a$$ 13 year old who was shy and feminine and he was able to pull a HOT GIRL Like that? LOL
That girl looked like she would be into guys who play football or some type of sport not Alex nerdy A$$
I found it interesting that according to imdb, the girls career consisted entirely of an ABC afterschool special and this episode.
TVFactFan 06-20-2015, 01:42 PM Just want to toss in that according to imdb, the girls career consisted entirely of an ABC afterschool special and this episode.
You are not revealing anything special since it was on the IMDB website

The girl was 13, but she looked like she was 16. She was very attractive.
TVFactFan 06-20-2015, 11:29 PM And she liked Alex? Was this girl Alex's age?
And no one knew why which confused Barbara and Ann LOL
she was supposed to be younger than Alex by 3 weeks:lol:
Bonniegirl 10-16-2015, 12:31 AM OMG!!!! Pulling this thread back up!!!! Maybe I shouldn't ,because I remember somebody objecting on another thread about this one cause the girl was too young or something! ?
Anyway, I saw it tonight!! Took a break from the Dodgers/Mets game that the Dodgers lost!
The girl was pretty and seemed like she was too mature to be interested in Alex, that's all I will say!!!
katshifty 10-25-2015, 02:18 PM As much as I like Alex, I have to agree. I couldn't understand why she was with him either! Lol
Anna Karenina 10-25-2015, 06:50 PM Glenn had to do a lot of acting in this episode, LOL.
Why couldn't the writers on this supposedly progressive show have gone out on a limb and just make Alex the first gay teenager on a show? It didn't have to be over the top or anything, just have him be pursued by the blonde and have him be decidedly not interested in her in that way.

Who was the first gay character in a TV show? Does anyone remember?
But ya know what is weird, Neil Patrick Harris is openly gay and he played a big time playa with the ladies on How I met your Mother, and as a teenager in Doogie Howser, playing a straight kid, but an overly intelligent child prodigy, I don't see him as appearing gay or awkward at all when he had scenes with girls!!! When I watch Doogie Howser now,I really try to take notice, and If I didn't know this guy was gay, I would never think it!!! ;) Alex/Glen was just so much more hyper and flamboyent!!! :D

That's because Neil Patrick Harris was always a much better actor.

I think it was someone from the short-lived Norman Lear sitcom Hot L Baltimore.

That's what I sometimes think about Who's the Boss?, what if the writers had talked with Danny Pintauro and made Jonathan gay? That would have been very interesting.

I've heard it said before it was Billy Crystal's character on Soap?

I've never seen Hot L Baltimore, but I've read that it featured a gay couple (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072512/) and it did pre-date Soap by a couple of years. If we're counting guest stars then we might as well give All In The Family the credit because a 1971 episode featured a gay character. There were some gay characters that showed up at the 12th precinct on Barney Miller. I don't know when exactly they made their first appearance, but I'm guessing even they pre-dated Jodie from Soap by a little bit.
Mr. Television 10-26-2015, 08:12 PM The first recurring gay character was in a short lived 1972 sitcom called The Corner Bar.

It looks like I learned something today. Thank you.
scrapple 10-26-2015, 10:12 PM It was probably either Floyd the Barber from "The Andy Griffith Show" or Uncle Arthur from "Bewitched".
