My favorite thing I ever wrote for television, has to be one of the jokes for "Fresh Off the Boat", in which a confused Jessica, the mom, refers to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as “those karate frogs who eat pizza in a sewer?!”
I was a big fan of the cartoon as an ’80s kid, and my mom was always puzzled as to why I loved those characters, and so many other absurd pop culture icons. It’s been really fun and meaningful, to use my parents’ perspective to inspire a joke, and then see it on television.
Growing up, I never got to see anyone who looked like them on television, who had a similar voice, saying funny or clever things.
