View Full Version : Will the Quad TV Networks ever launch?
Frank Gannucci 06-11-2015, 10:51 PM Last year, I heard that the Quad TV Networks (which are going to be four channels, one being 60s channel, 70s channel, 80s channel and 90s channel) were going to launch in late 2014 but due to companies merging (AT&T U-Verse might merge with direct TV and the failed merger between Comcast and Time Warner) that halted their plans especially since they claimed that they were going to have HD feeds for all channels as well.
Here we are in June 2015 and...nothing. I was hoping that the 60s channel would have reruns of the Jackie Gleason Show that would show the short Color sketches that unlike the rest of the Color shows have not seen the light of day. I called them and asked them but I got no response. Oh well. Here's their facebook page.

tlc38tlc38 06-11-2015, 11:43 PM At this point, I highly doubt we'll see these channels. I was also hoping we'd get to see some shows that aren't aired in syndication all that much but I guess it was all just a dream.
Probably just as well because these channels, if they did happen, probably wouldn't be on Directv and that's all I have.
TKMetal 06-13-2015, 04:50 PM They couldn't get providers on board with the concept. Some might take a single channel free on a trial basis but four? It wasn't going to work.
BigManMike 06-13-2015, 08:31 PM Doubt it. They haven't responded to anything on Facebook since 2014.
Frank Gannucci 06-13-2015, 11:09 PM I think that they made a response in April of this year. It's a real shame that they won't launch. I understand it's a very hard sell since it's technically eight channels (I am counting the networks hd feeds.) a real shame since I am looking for ANYONE who has the Jackie Gleason Show episodes from the 60s that have the short Color Honeymooners sketches that are IMPOSSIBLE to find.
MrCleveland 06-14-2015, 08:21 PM Looks like Quad TV will launch when Cleveland wins a Championship! (I still doubt the Cavs will win the Finals)!

With Love and Irving, Cavs could have won. Does that mean we'll eventually get the Quad?
bencasey 06-20-2015, 10:45 PM From the lists of shows that they had people being surveyed about, not a great loss. 98% of what they listed we already have complete on DVD anyway. They weren't interested in rarities, only the common crap.
Jamey Greek 06-24-2015, 02:14 AM Garth Ancier hinted that he wasn't planning on getting exclusive rights. But The Quad can and will happen. The merger with Directv and AT&T just hasn't been finalized yet.
brtcmfn 08-28-2015, 06:22 PM The Quad is not going to happen-
Official statement on FB:
"Regrettably, we have decided not to move forward with the launch of The Quad. Although we strongly believed in the concept and initially received solid support from the cable and satellite operators, industry consolidation and the increasing cost of programming have made the mountain too high to climb.
Your support and encouragement on Facebook/Twitter has been greatly appreciated and has motivated us along the way. We are disappointed and we know this is disappointing for our supporters as well.
Wishing you all the best.
The Quad Team"
There is now more than enough Digi-nets out there anyway to satisfy classic TV fans.
Mods- You can close this thread if you like.

I disagree 100%. I say there aren't enough and I'm completely unsatisfied with the ones I have.

Yea cable is on the brink of obsoletion anyway
At least this way the Quad will remain in our minds as the perfect unedited, non crunched, lots of variety of different shows network. We'll never know what the reality would have been.

The answer is no.
I use "...when Cleveland wins a Championship" as an idiom because we've been waiting for next year for 51 years, and we have the worst deficit in sports!
Looks like no Quad TV! ohno:ohno:ohno:ohno:

I'm a NY Jet fan. I can (kind of) relate. But at least we're not the Cubs.
Frank Gannucci 08-29-2015, 06:44 PM Brtcmfn, thank you for the post.
I knew making those channels successful would be hard (maybe except for the 80s and 90s channels). I thought if they would launch, the 60s channel would have the Jackie Gleason Show. I am still searching for those short Color Honeymooners sketches that haven't been seen since the 60s unlike the rest of them. I'm in DESPARATE need of them.

I doubt any of our sports teams in Cleveland can say "at least we're not...", since we have the worst sports deficit.
We just say "There's always next year"...and I'm saying that about Labor Day Weekend and it hasn't started yet!
Frank Gannucci 08-31-2015, 08:18 AM That set on ioffer doesn't have the short sketches. Thanks anyway.
mets82 08-31-2015, 04:05 PM I think The Quad could have worked if the shows were shows we hadn't already seen. I mean if they were offering All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Happy Days, Leave it to Beaver than I can see why The Quad was cancelled. Why watch something on there when you can already watch it on Antenna or ME-TV or one of the other channels?

Cleveland Barons>>>Minnesota North Stars>>>Dallas Stars>>>1999 Stanley Cup champions. That's as near as I can come to Cleveland titles, unless you consider Ohio St. close enough.
If you're still upset about the Quad leaving and aren't too happy with what the CBS Decades channel is offering, then what you might want to do, and it's been done here before, is create your own Decades/Quad TV channel and write down what kind of shows you would have on it. Take a look here to see some great examples of this:
TV Station Lineups By Decades (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=319571&highlight=decades)
Jamey Greek 09-03-2015, 09:42 PM And it's a shame that we have to depend on cable to watch them.
mets82 09-04-2015, 03:07 PM You got that right!!
