View Full Version : BUZZR is Incredible/Classics w orig commercials!
TeeVeeCloset 06-06-2015, 03:45 PM Hi Game Show Fans!
In case you are not getting BUZZR (Launched 6/1/15) my DVD recorder has been burning up nearly 24/7....I am also so surprised as to the superb quality of these classics, some dating back 55 years!
Some highlights, their two hour overnight block of Black & White classics (Buzz till Dawn) are being shown in 40 minute slots as to include totally UNEDITED episodes with the original commercials. Nothing is blurred out from sponsor set placements. Currently airing in this nightly block are 1960 episodes of "To Tell The Truth" (Collyer), "What's My Line" (Daly) & "I've Got A Secret" (Moore).
Another highlight which is scheduled to start tonight Saturday, 6/6/15 is a 3 hour block called "BUZZR TIME MACHINE", it is being advertised as series from 50s, 60s, 70s & 80s. Here is the schedule of what has run already, as I'm recording to DVD each Saturday night.

Refer to post #1 updated weekly "BUZZR TIME MACHINE" schedule.
As for your question the classic CBS daytime (9/19/83-9/26/86) Peter Tomarken episodes are running. BTW only the B&W classics run with the original commercials.

That doesn't answer my question. I asked what episodes of Press Your Luck are airing (earlier or later episodes).
TeeVeeCloset 06-15-2015, 08:41 AM That doesn't answer my question. I asked what episodes of Press Your Luck are airing (earlier or later episodes).
I have been accused here (not that I care) of providing too much factual information in answering posts.
I took the time to provide a simple answer to what was asked first...."What episodes are running?". Two days after your inquiry without any responses, I answered the one line question, remember it is ones' choice to respond, not an obligation.
According to the 2nd Edition of "The Encyclopedia Of TV Game Shows" I listed the short 3 years it was produced & broadcast on CBS, your question did not specify earlier or later episodes until I answered. The book makes no mention of format changes.
Unless you elaborate I have no answer because I see no difference in series format as they are running fourteen episodes a week. If it helps every program on BUZZR are owned/distributed by Freemantle.
I respectfully suggest a bit of humbleness when posting and someone responds with time & effort or you can continue to live up to your chosen screenname. LOL
Now it seems lately if posters end their post with LOL, you can say anything, so since your inquiry originally was to "Holy Christ", I asked him and he had the same answer. LOL
Watch out for the Whammy! LOL
Opinion: The threads/posts/members have taken a drastic change in tone since this sites' inception over a decade ago. Member "TV Knowledge fan" you are truly missed since last posting on 8/21/14.
MRPITT 06-15-2015, 12:26 PM Thank you for the info teeveecloset, It's appreciated. I think what wiseguy wanted was a little more specific info. The time range you listed covers all 750-800 episodes of Press Your Luck. Do you know if they started from episode 1 and are going in order or if they are just skipping around. If we knew the contestants names from a couple episodes that would help narrow it down.
Dang I wish I had this channel.

Nothing against "wiseguy", I was just having fun & sincerely needed more information that you so directly & kindly cleared up. I promise, give me a few days and I will post some contestant names. My total respect to all. Thank you again!

I can see where they're coming from. You talked about black and white shows in your first response to me, when I hadn't asked about that at all.
I took the time to provide a simple answer to what was asked first...."What episodes are running?". Two days after your inquiry without any responses, I answered the one line question, remember it is ones' choice to respond, not an obligation.
You didn't, and still have not, answered my question. If you didn't know the answer, you shouldn't have responded. Please stop acting like you've done me a favor because you haven't.
According to the 2nd Edition of "The Encyclopedia Of TV Game Shows" I listed the short 3 years it was produced & broadcast on CBS, your question did not specify earlier or later episodes until I answered. The book makes no mention of format changes.
I said "Which episodes are running?", which is the same thing as asking if they are running earlier or later episodes.
Unless you elaborate I have no answer because I see no difference in series format as they are running fourteen episodes a week. If it helps every program on BUZZR are owned/distributed by Freemantle.
Actually, it does make a huge difference. Some episodes have not aired anywhere in close to 20 years. The format is irrelevant. It's that certain episodes are extremely rare.
I respectfully suggest a bit of humbleness when posting and someone responds with time & effort or you can continue to live up to your chosen screenname. LOL
Again, you haven't done me any favors.
Now it seems lately if posters end their post with LOL, you can say anything, so since your inquiry originally was to "Holy Christ", I asked him and he had the same answer. LOL
Yeah, I am sure He (note the capitalization) took time out from much more important things to answer your question about a game show. LOL!
Watch out for the Whammy! LOL
I'm not pressing my luck.

Thanks for reminding me why I stick to the Unsolved Mysteries forum almost exclusively now.
Nothing against "wiseguy"
Oh yeah, you just issued an 8 paragraph verbal jab against me over a trivial issue, suggesting I have played a significant part in the "decline" of this forum. But no hard feelings, eh?
GI Jerrold 06-23-2015, 04:00 AM Have any Buzzr viewers noticed how episodes are aired chronologically BACKWARDS? If you haven't, watch carefully tomorrow night.
"Match Game 78" is the most obvious. The episode airing at 9PM EDT. and MID. EDT. is the episode which, chronologically, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWS the episode airing at 9:30PM EDT. and 12:30AM EDT.
Additionally, some of the "Buzz till Dawn" monochrone shows airing tonight are rebroadcasts of those which aired last week. Prior to the launch, it was publicly stated that Buzzr has access to the vast Fremantle Media library. However, it would appear that a very small percentage of that library is seeing any broadcast time.
I do like how the original sponsored ads are left in the monochrome game shows, and greatly appreciate that, at least for now, these spots are left in the broadcasts.
I really hope the people scheduling programming for Buzzr are not the same people running their FB page. If so, this diginet may be doomed :(

ALL AGREED and I did notice it, fustrating when Match Game is left hanging LOL, Tattletales seems to be fine.
I watch the double run with different episodes on Saturday mornings of the monochrome series but am waiting for late 60's color "To Tell The Truth" & "Beat The Clock" which is seen in the BUZZR Time Machine promo with Soupy Sales riding the bike I believe. Best part of any early network, is full credits, promotional consideration artcards, etc.
Hopefully since I don't think they have any cable carriage yet, they will get a fuller schedule. I too am watching 9.3 in metro area and recording directly to DVD.
You might have seen the confusion over me not sincerely really understanding a question about PYL (I know about the contestant who figured out board pattern) but was never a big fan and since three years was a short run, I had no idea that GSN wasn't running all of them. I know the series has a big following, Currently BUZZR is running early fall 1983 episodes.
McBevis 06-23-2015, 01:27 PM I heard, and I sure hope it's true, that they will eventually show TPIR. If it is true, will someone please let me know when this is to start. I don't get the channel right now, and I don't want to have to pay extra for it or change cable providers unless this is a certainty. So if someone could keep me updated on that, I would appreciate it.

You Got It! Promise.....heard as you probably know that barker had a problem with the old ones because of real fur coats.
I have the 1972 premiere week with original commercials, these are in the collectors circuit but mine are near mint with slates.
Just keep checking this thread as I plan on continuing only on this one with their updates and the first post I update weekly with what aired on their "BUZZR Time Machine" each week.
I'm also into the old game show scene and have access to this network, but... 1) I have to hook up an antenna to the TV and change the input (a nuisance, but not horrible) 2) I then have to fight with and constantly move said antenna to try to keep the signal coming in. This is where they lose me.

Thank you. I'm well aware of Bob being against episodes with fur coats being shown again, but I hope there won't be any other restrictions.
While I'm as much for animal welfare as Bob Barker, I do wish that he would let any and all episodes be seen again. Those of us us hardcore fans who would like so much to see some of these old episodes again know very well how Bob feels about animals, and I doubt very much that any such episodes being shown again would cause anyone to think that Bob no longer cares about animals. After all, the main viewing audience for these would be hardcore fans like myself who know and respect Bob for his dedication to animal-related causes, so I have a hard time understanding why he might think that re-running these episodes would cast doubt upon his reputation.
By the way, if you have a collection of TPIR episodes, would you mind sending me a list of what episodes you have, and if there are any that I'm interested in, would you possibly be interested in doing a trade? I have a pretty large collection of TPIR myself (about 1300 episodes).

I hear you buddy, but with you also being in the ny metro area, where we are loaded with diginets, I gave in, for me this was the simpliest way....
I respect that 16:9 is all you can even buy, but personally I hate them, great for sports and movies but not shows that were shot in 4:3 ratio, (90% of what I watch and archive) more than half of the people with these sets innocently don't even have the aspect ratio in the correct setting, so they watch a stretched picture or have black bars on all sides called "postage stamped".
I am trying to hold onto to living the life of 4:3 as long as I can but still with the home theatre feeling. I have one of the last SONY 4:3's they made, (weighs 400 pounds)I held onto it until my last one broke. It is the biggest they made 36 beautiful inches, yes a perfect 3 foot square, great speakers, plus I have my RCA jacks cranking out the audio when needed for extra special events.
I finally cured every problem that even cable or others can't, TV providers claim you can switch aspect ratio, but it isn't real or doesn't do it without what you mentioned. The cable box settings do nothing at most times to give you a correct as shot 4:3 picture.
OK sorry but I am very passionate on this, as I feel as a consumer we should be given the right to buy 4:3 TV's with a glass screen and a nice speaker system. I also have 35+ year self owned old other 4:3's that are still perfect color, I don't give up on something till it gives up on me! LOL, I mean vinyl records and players are everywhere now, but I can't buy a 4:3 TV?
And yes my 40 year SEARS non belt driven turntable with working 8-track still works perfect and I still can get a diamond chip stylus when needed for blasting my vinyl! RCA phonoplugs and giant speakers (left & right) provided!
Now if you don't have a nice 4:3, this whole idea won't work, but maybe this will help others as I have read similar issues & fustration from posters that has also annoyed me since diginet inception, especially with COZI, Decades, etc.
Start with a nice hopefully large 4:3, take a chance, they sell them at goodwill for $15! and most are good!
I have a APEX #502 Digital TV Converter and a not abtrusive rabbit ear set that plugs in, helps with signal strength. Now connect antenna into converter, and use standard RCA (Yellow, white, red) jacks from converter into a standard even non playing VHS LINE Input two in. Switch TV to Input 2, TV Nirvana will be instant as you are using the VCR and digital converter as a tuner with extra signal strength.
Is digital TV subject to rain interference?, Yes, but so are most regular providers. The Apex converter has its own remote, volume and favorite channels and program guide. Plus the Apex has a signal strength button, I am kind of in a valley and don't have to move the antenna around. In fact, at times if you move it too much, the signal has problems, even when you walk past it....so when recording stay still...LOL.....as you know, with digital, it's all perfect or a blue screen. I miss Snow! LOL or even ghosting!
I have mine directly into my real time DVD recorder, so I can record directly to DVD from the diginets. Put that Apex volume to about 75 level....as soon as you turn it off, within seconds you are back to cable.
Best part of all, the Apex has the real ability to get rid of ALL black bars without blowing up picture. It just cuts the sides off because you are watching TV the way it was meant to be (sorry Antenna TV) LOL....4:3 full screen, 36 inch screen, yes a yardsticks worth in classic B&W or living color!
again we share the same market, the #1 ADI (Area of Dominant Influence).
So yes I have added for pennies DECADES 2.2, COZI 4.2, MOVIES! 5.2, LAFF 7.3, BUZZR 9.3, Antenna 11.2, This TV 11.3, Bounce 41.3, GRIT 41.4, ESCAPE 68.4 A Televison feast for the eyes, it reminds me of the good old UHF days!
TV Life is good.....anyone feel free if you need to ask further questions, I know the explanation was long, but it is worth controlling your TV again, like the old days, plus with cable which is still essential, but I don't have to depend on my cable provider for their whim on which channels they carry or suddenly change the aspect ratio to HD.

Sorry I don't have a formal list, it's all in my head and that is about 25,000 episodes of all varieties. My favorite was is in 1990 I sat with my then girlfriend as a VIP right behind contestants row, so we were in every shot, which she enjoyed being a wanna be model...LOL...true!
wiseguy182 06-24-2015, 08:26 AM McBevis, we can trade someday when I get my game show collection back in order. My collection of Price is Right, game shows and Unsolved Mysteries is INSANE! Literally, it's not sane.

Unfortunately, according to Bob Barker, Holly Hallstrom and Fur Coats never existed on the show.
Hence, you will never see them rerun ever again.

I'm always open for trading any time you are. I got some great (and hard to find) TPIR from you when we traded a few years ago. I'd love to see how your collection has come along since then.

But then why did the former BCI rep. Cliff Mac (BCI has been defunct in 2008) said "banned models" was not a rumor?
And why were none of the Holly episodes on the DVD?

I really couldn't say, but as Roger was one of the most important people to the show for more than 3 decades, I trust that he would be more knowledgeable about such matters than just anybody.

I'm not sure why you brought that up again since the person who you were talking to didn't mention it.
But since you did bring it up, I will clarify a few things for you.
Press Your Luck refers to the classic game show from 1983-1986. There was a remake, of sorts, that originally aired in the 2002-2003 era called "Whammy! The All New Press Your Luck", which is an entirely different show with a different format, different host, different rules, different set and a different name. Press Your Luck is somewhat based on an earlier game show from the 70's called Second Chance.
I don't know why you keep referring to Press Your Luck as a "short-lived show", when many game shows last a year or less. Press Your Luck had nearly 800 episodes, which doesn't sound short-lived to me.
SitcomsOffline 06-25-2015, 09:46 PM I spoke with Roger Dobkowitz via Facebook regarding this matter. He claims there is no rule in place about episodes with Holly being shown again.
There may not be an actual "rule" in place, but if I'm not mistaken, Barker can still choose to not authorizes his appearances in those episodes for reruns.
And given all of the vile stuff I've heard Barker had done behind the camera, it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case. And that would eliminate all 1977 to 1995 TPIR episodes, or basically all of the episodes in TPIR's golden years (assuming Kathleen Bradley and Dian Parkinson are not being treated the same way).

Considering Barker is 91 years old at this point, I think everyone's just waiting for him to kick the bucket, at which point his long chokehold on preventing the classic episodes from re-airing will finally be lifted.
I'm glad to see Kathleen Bradley put out a book last year, I'll have to read it. I had given up hope on Chris Mann's tell-all book from ever surfacing, and would you believe he's still talking about it as if it's going to happen. It should be noted he's been talking about this book since at least the late 2000's or so.
Mario500 06-28-2015, 01:38 PM I had never believed any of the accusations made against Bob Barker referenced in this discussion or the idea that he would not allow certain editions of "The Price is Right" to be broadcast again.
MichaelKeith 07-28-2015, 11:31 AM you're right, they're great! I just discovered this channel last evening on Comcast in Houston. I watched Let's Make a Deal at 7 pm, Match Game at 8 and Tattletales at 9:00 PM. Just like in the good ole 1970s!!!! Loved it.

MRPITT 10-27-2015, 05:50 PM Could you post about how got Buzzr's programming?
Well, I moved about a half a mile away and went from a good signal to a great signal. It now comes in through my directv box.
EricIdlefan 10-27-2015, 10:44 PM GSN needs to take that from Buzzr as the latter keeps in the commercials and the credits without the crunch.
