Many people are looking to the old showes for entertainment on TV. Even some of the young kids are watching many of the shows from years past. I mean I am talking shows like Gilligans Island.... I Love Lucy..... The honeymooners The Lucy show and The Brady Bunch. And let's not forget the still very popular Threes Company.

Is it because many of todays shows just plain suck? That there is no entertainment value in them?

Even some TV/Cable channels became popular by airing these shows from the 50s 60s 70s and even 80s. For example Nic@Nite Started airing these old sitcoms and became popular because of it. Then TV land comes along airing the same shows that Nic abandoned and they became popular because of it.

I am beginning to think that who so ever airs these old shows is going to follow in the same footsteps as Nic and TV Land.

Reruns of older shows were always popular even back when they still knew how to make great TV. I would guess there would be an added incentive at least for a lot of folks these days to lean even more towards watching classic TV because most modern TV is pretty much just as you described it and then some.

I feel it also helps when a child's parents watched classic tv. My parents raised me on Nick@Nite and TVLand so I was and still am REALLY into all the great shows from the 90's and before. My child even watches classics now with me such as Batman, My Favorite Martian, etc.

On the other side of the fence, have friends who've clearly never even turned on a classic TV show. They give me looks like I'm a nutcase for even wanting to watch a show over 10 years old. They are fools. Plain and simple.

I watch classic shows like Three's Company and Gilligan's Island because they genuinely make me laugh still, but that doesn't apply to all classic shows which I saw as a kid but cannot tolerate them at times (Gimme A Break, Diff'rent Strokes, Small Wonder).

The three shows I mentioned in the latter had kids in the shows which is probably why they haven't aged well because adults finds kid actors just plain annoying smart aleks.

And even though I was a teen growing up in the 90's many of shows from the 90's I just can't tolerate as well (Full House, Step By Step, Blossom)

I Love Lucy has been very popular with my nephew Eli; I had given him the first two releases (after his having tried an episode and really enjoying it), then over time have gotten him three more (the third and fourth ones for a Christmas present last year, and the fifth one when he visited about a couple of months ago). I'm thinking about getting him the last regular one and the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour for his birthday in October.

My husband and I watch the classic's because they were funny. The stuff today is silly, stupid and a lot of smut.

I had an extremely happy childhood but my teen years weren't so happy. During my teens, I developed a crush on classic TV. The humor is comforting...that's what I was looking for at the time.

To this day, I still love the classics. As far as I'm concerned there will NEVER be another Lucille Ball, Bob Newhart, Carol Burnett, Bea Arthur, John Ritter...these are icons in comedy and will never be topped.

I know a lot are enjoying old dramas, crime, and horror shows. I watch a lot of those online and you wouldn't believe the comments from people younger than me who are loving the old-school stuff because of the acting and writing. You wouldn't think shows like Kraft Suspense Theater, Boris Karloff's Thriller, and even old-time radio dramas like Suspense and Lights Out would attract teenagers and twenty-somethings but they are. Maybe some are just burned out on what's being offered for entertainment these days and want something different to look at, or they're checking out shows their parents and grandparents talk about.

I am beginning to think that who so ever airs these old shows is going to follow in the same footsteps as Nic and TV Land.you don't have to worry about ME TV, ANTENNA TV and COZI becoming like Nick at Nite and TV Land; you can rest assure they'll stay the same way. They're not cable channels they're digital sub-channel so they're not subject to the same regulations as cable channels.

i watch lots of TV all the time i agree nothing bets the classic shows my all time favorite classic show is called Quantum leap and the wonder years are my all time favorite classic shows i also like i love lucy a lot if i ever get married i wouldn't let my kids watch todays TV maybe some of it but not much their are some good shows like Arrow the flash Gotham person of interest Hawaii Five-0 & The Mentalist but for classic show i grew up on are the wonder years boy meets world kung Fu Kung Fu: The Legend Continues The Incredible Hulk Quantum leap& MacGyver for comedies the wonder years perfect strangers family ties family matters step by step full house the Jefferson's Sanford & son California Dreams mammas family & saved by the bell now today shows gotten dirty only two comedies I watch are the big bang theory and last man standing i have been watching the new odd couple remake its ok I can't stand mostly all the cartoons expect for the few super hero cartoons now a day I worry more about kids watching the newer cartoons I remember when I was a kid we would have to go to school do our chores and do our home work then we would have to sleep in and get up early on Saturday moorings like 7:00 am or 8:00 am in the mooring just to watch a certain show now days I think some kids are spoiled now days they got 24 hour cartoons net works but I would makes sure what my kids watch if I ever have kids I guess that's why people are going back to the classic shows and the classic cartoons its just not as good as it used to be.

Also, part of the issue is that the production value is pretty poor on many modern TV shows, even with the advances in technology that have taken place.

What can I say that hasn't been said already? :confused: There ARE some modern shows I'm waiting for to come out on DVD and/or Blu-Ray (ALL of these new "Superhero" Shows to be precise), but with 80% of my mammoth library consisting of shows and movies made from the 1950s to the 1970s you don't need to be a 'Rocket Scientist" to see what years IMO had the best shows.

PS when YOUNGER people say to me most of today's TV sucks you KNOW something isn't right!

Another thought, How many posters watch a lot of the black and white shows vs the color shows?. The black and white pull you back further into a classic state. I think back to the 1960's and the tv announcer would say Gunsmoke in color. It did give the viewers a little wonder what Jeannie's harem custom looked like. It is nice to have the old niche of black and white shows.

Leave It to Beaver, Mister Ed, The Donna Reed Show, Father Knows Best, My Three Sons, The Addams Family, The Munsters, The Twilight Zone, Dennis the Menace, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, The Patty Duke Show, & The Real McCoys....I like them all and I know I'm leaving off lots of other B&W shows that I like.

I was born in 1982 and I love good, quality TV. Just because a show is in black & white doesn't stop me from watching it.

Over 1/4 of the Series I own on DVD are in "Beautiful Black & White" or had their first seasons in that manner. Color isn't everything, and IMO it's not what a show has, it's what it does with what it has. :thumbsup:

Right now, I am seeing M Squad (1957-60 NBC police series w/the late Lee Marvin). Lee's role of Lt. Frank Ballinger has been consistently entertaining, and I think that this is one of those series that I have seen that will be well worth the money I paid for its release.
