View Full Version : M.S. Romano, Sexual Harasser.
Anna Karenina 05-29-2015, 09:54 PM While I thought Ann's behavior was horrible, I just can't see why she would make a fool of herself over an obviously disinterested, effeminate man in the first place. He was fairly attractive but not somebody you would lose your principles for.
And what was that malarkey at the end about Craig quitting? He should have insisted that C and D take corrective action and had Ann fired or at the very least suspended. She didn't suffer any consequences except a bruised conscience and a close up.;)
Horrible resolution to the story.
The acting by Craig was laughable, like he was doing an SCTV parody. I understand he became an Emmy award winning writer so maybe acting wasn't his thing. Still, he was horribly miscast.
Thoughts???
Bonnie did a good job though. But her supposedly sexy outfit and lack of makeup was hardly enough to seduce anybody.

Well it was 1979. Back than even female sexual harassment in the workplace wasn't as known or heard about as it is today! The tables turned where it was the women who was sexually harassing a man would have been virtually unheard of!
I didn't find that guy to be that attractive. He wasn't ugly, but like you said Anna, nobody to go  over! Maybe it went over my head, but I didn't see him as effeminate ? But come to think of it , you could be right. ;)
Anyway it was funny, men that came onto Anne over the years (old farts, and even Julie's date , actor Robby Benson) that she didn't want, and here she comes onto a man and he doesn't want her. And esp. a man regarding her job, how embarrassing ! Again as I said being 1979, I'm sure a guy wouldn't make too much an issue out of it besides resigning! ;)
Anna Karenina 05-29-2015, 10:33 PM You are right, it was a different time and people didn't have as much legal recourse as they do now. I just thought it so anti climactic not to have any real repercussions for Ann.

Except pretty much making her look like an A**!! :D
rcbrad 05-31-2015, 08:12 PM I always wondered why she did not wear much makeup?
Maybe I need to watch it again a little closer, but I did not really see where the harassment took place? It seemed more like a story about where it is not always a good idea to mix business with "pleasure".

Are you kidding???
Ann totally harassed that guy. She threatens him on the phone when she wanted him to spontaneously come over to "discuss business." She says "I realize you have plans, but if your social life is more important than work....." Please! It was the weekend. The guy was not on the clock! Ann threatened him. Then when he does come over, Ann tries to woo him with marinated steaks and chilled wine. She then proceeds to kiss him TWICE. Now how is that not sexual harassment???
Ann should have been FIRED. She totally abused her power.
She also came off as a cocky, power hungry, ho bag, ass.
LittleRickyII 05-31-2015, 09:44 PM M.S. ???
Wawwie 05-31-2015, 10:02 PM M.S. ???
Yes, M.S.
Ann's boss always called her M.S. Romano instead of Ms. Romano.

Why was he "effeminate"? Just because he was a secretary, which people usually associate as a feminine job? Historically only men were secretaries up until WWI, when women began entering the field. Nothing about Craig was "effeminate", but I would argue that he could be seen by some as "emasculated" because of being subservient to a woman (especially in 1979).
Anna Karenina 06-01-2015, 12:10 PM I guess I am the only person who thought he came off that way. Not that there is anything wrong with it. I love all types of people. Some men are just more masculine than others. Its a fact of life. Nothing to do with his being a secretary. Just the personality the actor brought to the role. Even when I was a 10 year old kid watching the episode for the first time I thought this about him.
My point was that he wasn't giving Ann any mixed signals. He was there just to do his job. She was making a fool of herself over somebody who couldn't be less interested.

Yeah, I forgot about the part where you stated that: She threatens him on the phone when she wanted him to spontaneously come over to "discuss business." She says "I realize you have plans, but if your social life is more important than work....." Please! It was the weekend. The guy was not on the clock!
Yes I agree that this was sexual harassment. A more severe form of harassment is when you are expected to do things for the sake of a promotion or to keep your job etc. At least Ann did not go that far.

Ann would have gone that far if she had the opportunity. Ann proved that she had no scruples or morals when it comes to business or how to deal with employees.
'80sSitcoms 06-02-2015, 08:14 AM M.S. ???
Yes, M.S.
Ann's boss always called her M.S. Romano instead of Ms. Romano.
Well, he didn't call her "M.S. Romano" by saying the letters separately like you would say the "U.S.S. Freedom" for a ship's name, but he emphasized the abbreviation, as in "Ms.".
Actually though he phonetically said it more like, "Mizzzzzzzz Romano", lol.
Bonniegirl 06-02-2015, 11:33 AM Yes he did!! He called her M.S. Romano. And last night in the ep that Ann's Mom was working at the office, he called Katherine M.R.S. Romano!

Oh, he did? I'm sorry, then if he did, he did, lol...I just remember the times he kept going "Mizzzzzz Romano", lol.
Both bosses were actually pretty good characters, Even if the one guy did go to the "my wife" joke a few too many times.
Anna Karenina 06-02-2015, 02:21 PM thanks yes, B.G. ;)
I missed that episode with M.R.S. Romano last night. Sounds like a funny premise.
Anna Karenina 06-02-2015, 02:24 PM Both bosses were actually pretty good characters, Even if the one guy did go to the "my wife" joke a few too many times.
Were they ever in the same room together? I liked them both too.:)
Anna Karenina 06-02-2015, 02:25 PM Oh, he did? I'm sorry, then if he did, he did, lol...I just remember the times he kept going "Mizzzzzz Romano", lol.
No problem. No doubt he said it a few times that way too.:)
Bonniegirl 06-02-2015, 10:04 PM Isn't it Schneider who says Mizzzzzzzzzz Romano? Really dragging out Ms. What is up with that Ms. sh*t anyway? I would tell the boss and Schneider and everyone to just call me Ann!
TVFactFan 06-03-2015, 12:55 AM Ann put the moves on that Dude LOL
Damm, she was bold

Hey wait a minute, after watching "Old Horizons" I see what it is now...her 2nd boss, played by John Hiller, says "M.S." and "M.R.S." Romano...I was thinking you meant her 1st boss, played by $25,000 Pyramid whiz Charlie Seibert; he's her boss who says "Mizzzzzzzz" Romano.;)
Anna Karenina 06-03-2015, 01:03 PM Oh yes, I can see why you got confused there.
I liked both bosses as well. They were smart asses but basically decent people.
They took a woman with literally no experience in the work place and no college education and trained her into becoming a successful ad exec.
Only on TV.
mstewart 06-03-2015, 02:15 PM Bonnie looked hot in that episode. In seasons 4 and 5 they spruced up her wardrobe where she does not have that plain jane look. Matter of fact Bonnie Franklin was an attractive actress especially when she cut her hair short.

Ann made a total jackass out of herself.
Bonniegirl 05-11-2016, 01:00 AM This guy didn't want Ann, and Mr. Race car driver picked her up and put her out in the hall!! That was the funniest part of the whole show yesterday!
