I watch them. Yeah they aren't the same as the legacy segments but they are there.

it's not as good but they're still better than 99% of whats on the other 5700 channels. Hey remember when Bruce Springsteen said 57 channels and nothing on? And that was supposed to be a lot?

Im pretty sure I've seen all the Farina episodes. Give or take a few. Watched them for about two years religiously. Now they are mere re-runs for me and they don't move me anymore. I can't find the old ones anywhere so..... I'm left UM'less.... Sadly :(

I DVR them, and do a look to see if there are any rare segments I don't have on DVD. The only episode that's still on my DVR is one with the Cathy Ford disappearance.

Thanks for reminding me that Farina's Unsolved Mysteries (TM) is still on tv! I forgot it was on Lifetime probably because I usually oversleep while job searching. And for good reason - I finally got to see that segment about the 2 priest in New Mexico/MT who were killed. I have not seen that segment in years since the other site's videos were all taken down due to copyright! I bought a collection of UM old vhs copies all put together but there are like 6 of my favorites that are not included:

-2 priests (in New Mexico and Montana)
-Mathew Chase ATM
-Ypsilanti murder (forgot his name)
-Ogopogo

(bob dozier has a bulldozer)

The good thing about Farina show is the beginning intro when they show the 5 segments for the next 60 minutes. This gives me an idea if I want to watch some of it or skip it altogether. Luckily this morning started with the 2 priests murder cases - one I actually wanted to see.

PS: I find it funny when current actors of UM (back in 80s and 90s) who dress up in attire for segments about people in the 1800s or the sixties. Funny seeing them try and pretend they know that era. lol.

I watched for a little while when they were first aired on Spike. But I stopped watching/recording within a week or two. I did see ONE case (Sneha Philip) that I had not seen in the Stack format, since I was overseas when it aired.

Honestly, I found the Farina format to be such a tremendous disappointment that I haven't watched it in years and don't plan to.

Were you in the military? I was overseas in Kuwait starting in late 2000 so I missed some UM lifetime episodes. However during that time from 1998 - 2002 while in Air Force in WA state I thought the LIFETIME unsolved mysteries were all reruns lol! I always assumed the real UM with new episodes was only on the main free channels like NBC and CBS from 1987 to 1999. I saw UM once or twice when it was on Lifetime from 2001 - 2002, otherwise missed some good segments like Mike Emert, Chandra Levy, The Anthrax Killer, Eric Tamiyasu, Mothman, Molly Bish.

Yea I too was deeply disappointed when I discovered the Farina ones were all reruns. Why not at least mix it up and have a few new segments along with a few old ones on each new Farina show back then. It would force us to sit through the whole hour to make sure we see the new segments. I tried to watch the Farina ones at first but after a couple weeks I quit. I felt cheated and this seemed like a cheap way for the producers to make a buck. Not until last year did I start watching the Farina ones probably because I miss any UM show and also because UM doesn't fit into today's tv line up :)

I watch them because they air on Sunday mornings when nothing else is really on. I wish they would have not included the cheesy metal music and SFX during the suspenseful scenes but they needed to "update" it.

I DVR them everyday. I watch for segments I've never seen before but most of them I fast forward through because I've seen them over & over again. But yeah the Stack versions are better.

It was an easy mistake to make, since the episodes Lifetime aired during the 90's were all repeats, you'd assume the 01-02 episodes were as well. It really is a testimony to the fan base that UM had such success in syndication. It happens every now and then, Star Trek being the most obvious example, that a show has that kind of success after cancellation.

The shortcomings of the Farina Episodes have been thoroughly discussed on other threads, but all I can logically say is that Cosgrove intended to make new episodes IF the Farina Episodes were popular enough and made enough money to warrant it.

As I've said before, this didn't happen because viewers today demand high quality, and a bunch of vaguely aged stories re-mixed with high quality graphics just didn't impress many. Actually adding the higher quality graphics might have made the show worse because it highlights the much lower definition of the original film reels. The dark schemes used in the NBC and CBS days fit with the filming style so much better.

And yes, to answer your first question, I was a Marine and by coincidence, was also in Kuwait around the same time you were there. I spent the Summer and Fall of '01 there, and left at the end of Nov '01. Really miss the recreation place "Uncle (Something??)'s" Can't remember what the exact name was, but loved the free burgers and movie screen playing Movies and NFL games!
