Paul Lee, president, ABC Entertainment Group, will unveil the network’s new lineup to the advertising and media communities this afternoon at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall.

“Our new slate of shows continues the momentum from last year. ABC was the most buzzed about network, and the only major network to hold on to its audience and to grow in the target demo. ABC delivered 7 of the Top 20 entertainment series on broadcast TV this season in Adults 18-49, placing 4 of the Top 10 and claiming 3 of the Top 5 dramas: “Modern Family” and “Scandal” tie at No. 4, “How to Get Away with Murder” – No. 9, “Grey’s Anatomy” – No. 10, “Once Upon a Time” – No. 12, while “black-ish” and “The Bachelor” tie at No. 18.

New series “The Catch,” “Dr. Ken,” “The Family,” “The Muppets,” “Of Kings and Prophets,” “OIL,” “Quantico,” “The Real O’Neals,” “Uncle Buck” and “Wicked City” will join the lineup.

For geeky and movie obsessed youngest child Adam, these were his wonder years, and he faced them armed with a video camera to capture all the crazy. The Goldbergs are a loving family like any other — just with more yelling. Mom, Beverly, is a classic “smother,” an overbearing, overprotective matriarch who loves her delicious kids, but still rules this brood with 100% authority and zero sense of boundaries. Dad, Murray, is gruff and sometimes oblivious, parenting with half his attention span but all his heart. Sister, Erica, is popular and terrifying, doing her best to cover up that she's the smartest of the clan. Barry is a passionate dreamer, who maybe dreams a little too big and who always gets the short end of the stick. Adam is the youngest, a camera-wielding future director who’s navigating first love and growing up with his family. He tries to escape all the female drama at home in the warm, manly embrace of his job at the Outdoor Man store, a sporting goods emporium where he is marketing director. Also, he still revels in his Outdoor Man video blog, which he delightedly uses as a pulpit for his opinions and a voice to appeal to those who agree that manliness is under assault. Winner: ABC

The best network on broadcast television at the moment had the freedom given the success of their current season to plug in their holes with a lot of new series, but chose — for the most part — to try and continue to develop their great but underperforming series, like Fresh Off the Boat, Galavant, and American Crime. In a rare move, ABC decided to let an audience find their best shows instead of scrapping them and starting all over from scratch.

Loser: John Cho and Karen Gillan

Unfortunately, it’s best freshman series of last fall, Selfie, was given an early hook and not allowed to find its audience.

Winner: Diversity

Not only did Fresh Off the Boat come off the bubble and get renewed, but ABC also picked up Dr. Ken, Ken Jeong’s semi-autobiographical medical sitcom, which brings the total number of Asian-led series on network television to two. Even better for Fresh off the Boat is that it will get a lead-in from The Muppets, which has a very good chance of being next year’s best and highest-rated freshman comedy. It also extends ABC’s dominant family-comedy brand. ABC also picked up Uncle Buck for midseason, which will feature a black-led cast. This is why ABC is winning: Great shows with that appeal to broad demographics without resorting to overly broad comedy.

Loser: Sunday nights on ABC

The network has had a lot of difficulties competing with cable dramas on Sunday nights after Once Upon a Time, and this year doesn’t look much different. Oil and Of Kings and Prophets don’t look like the kind of shows that have a shot in hell at competing with HBO and Showtime. Expect two more freshman series in those same slots next season.

Winner: Shonda Rhimes

Not only did Rhimes keep her blockbuster Thursday night drama block intact, she added a fourth show, The Catch, with Mireille Enos, and it looks like exactly the kind of show that will continue to appeal to Rhimes’ demographic.

Very glad Last Man Standing earned yet another renewal! It's really had to earn each of its 5 renewals and it earned them fairly. It's my favorite multi-cam on network TV right now and one of a very few current comedies and shows period I enjoy. Great, mostly clean comedy. I can't imagine it'll go too many more years beyond this but I'm very happy for and proud of Tim for being in a small circle of actors/actresses to have two successful sitcoms!

Super excited for the Muppets!!!! Loved the Muppet Show and Muppets Tonight!! Definite iTunes season pass there :D on paper this should do phenomenally. If I we're sitting here this time next year and it hasn't earned a renewal all I'll be able to do is sit here going :O :O :O period. That's all my post will say if it gets cancelled. Just :O. But I have a strong feeling it's going to do extremely well.

I'm surprised that Secrets & Lies is not staying in its original slot and is instead moved to Wednesdays 10 pm which used to be a "death slot" pre-2011... I think ABC really didn't expect it to stick, hence why the switch with American Crime late last year.

Fresh off the Boat isn't too bad since nothing else is on and now that reruns are on Criminal Minds that I like I watch Modern Family and Black ish. I'll try Dr. Ken after Last Man Standing to see what it's like. Fri. is not so great for me.

ABC is changing their announced schedule a bit. According to Spoiler TV, Quantico will now air Sundays at 10:00 and Of Kings and Prophets is now unscheduled. Beyond the Tank will now air Tuesdays at 10:00. I would say this is a bad move all around. Quantico will probably be the first cancelled ABC show in either slot and now they're killing the chances for Of Kings and Prophets.

ABC has such an impressive comedy division right now — with Modern Family, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Black-ish, Fresh Off the Boat and Last Man Standing, and soon to be joined by The Real O'Neals — that the network will have a really hard time deciding which comedies to cancel in May of 2016 to make room for any new comedies which may premiere in the Fall of 2016.

There are a couple of factors:

1. Only Black-ish and The Real O'Neals are produced in-house by ABC Studios; all the other sitcoms mention are produced by outside studios.
2. All of the shows listed above are doing either well or respectably in the ratings, with Modern Family having the best demo rating and viewership of any current ABC comedy.

I think the most obvious comedy cancellations this season (aside from those which haven't debuted yet) are Galavant, The Muppets (if its mid-season changes aren't successful), and Dr. Ken. Galavant and Muppets are owned by ABC Studios, and Dr. Ken is co-produced by ABC Studios and Sony Pictures TV. All three comedies have below-average ratings and viewership.

Also, what about Sundays? Once Upon A Time will run uninterrupted and finish with a 2-hour finale on 5/8? I'm assuming The Family has 10 episodes so 9 will air on Sundays, but Quantico has 11 left I believe and it has to air without Once Upon A Time?

I was thinking the last 3 episodes for the seasons of Last Man Standing and Dr. Ken would air 4/8, 4/15 and 4/22. Then they can double air the 8 episodes of Uncle Buck for 4 weeks, 4/29, 5/6, 5/13 and 5/20.

According to spoilertv.com The Family has a 12 episode season 1 so 11 weeks for Sunday. Quantico also has 11 left. I'm thinking no 2 hour season finale for Once Upon a Time this year. So probably 11 weeks for all 3 shows.

Those episode orders seem fishy to me, 13 episodes of The Catch when it's scheduled to start at the last week of March? How many times will it double since Scandal will have like 8 episodes left by that time.

Since the end of Brothers & Sisters, ABC Sunday midseason replacement shows were 8 or 10 episodes (GCB, Red Widow, Resurrection, Secrets & Lies) so The Family is also surprising to me. Is there no Hallmark movie scheduled either? I guess it's possible Once Upon A Time won't have 2-hour finale since it only happened for S3-S4.
