The reason the Fox comedy rebounded from being awful to pretty good is that it "evolved into a Darwinian sex comedy with the men as the objects," says James Poniewozik. "Last Man on Earth is still not as amazing it promised to be at its beginning (nor does the title make much sense anymore)," he says. "It's developed–maybe inevitably–into something more familiar.
