The guy was surely a scammer, but he was definitely blind for real. That was proven when Florida tricked him into believing that she called the police on a dead phone. Since the blind man couldn't SEE that Florida was faking, he actually believed that Florida called the "bunko" squad. That's why he reimbursed the Evans family.

I remember that episode...it was season two's "The Encyclopedia Hustle." A pre-"Barney Miller" Ron Glass guest-starred (in his second and final guest appearance on "Good Times") as blind "salesman" Henry Anderson.

What gets me is that Anderson explains he lost his eyesight in Korea (James reveals that Anderson's platoon replaced the platoon that James had served in), yet he looks like he was obviously in his late twenties. Was this an error on the writers' part?
