That's what George ate when he was a kid, Glad my family never had that because I would have stared at it on the plate.

Wawwie 04-29-2015, 01:55 PM You might be better off eating out of a dumpster. Bonniegirl 04-29-2015, 03:18 PM You might be better off eating out of a dumpster. Possum stew in NY? Even if you were poor, I always thought possum stew would be more something people in rural areas would eat. Possum's could carry rabies or worse! :p Wawwie 04-29-2015, 03:22 PM Possum stew in NY? Even if you were poor, I always thought possum stew would be more something people in rural areas would eat. Possum's could carry rabies or worse! :p Exactly. I would think Possum Stew would be more of a South Carolina or Georgia dish. NY? What's up with that??? Bonniegirl 04-29-2015, 03:26 PM Exactly. I guess you'd have to travel to upstate NY to catch a possum, because I have never, ever, once seen a possum in the city streets of New York. Maybe they could hang out in East Long Island??? pkripper001 04-29-2015, 04:09 PM George lived at 984 W. 124th Street in Harlem when he was a kid. If you were to see one on the streets of New York,it might be worth more alive then to make stew out of. The fur sells for $100 per kg or 2.2 pounds. http://www.gorgeouscreatures.co.nz/NZ+Possum+vs+Opossum.html http://www.possumhunters.co.nz/blog Coffeecup 04-29-2015, 04:28 PM Didn't the Clampetts eat a lot of possum stew?. I do tend to think it was a low end type of meat. But you were hungry, you would eat it. I would rather eat possum than rattlesnake. I would rather eat possum than rattlesnake. Yeah they did. They were country people. I guess if you were poor and grew up on it and that is what you knew to eat ? The thought of eating possum or "road kill" makes me think the animal could be rabid and I'd get very sick! :p TVFactFan 04-29-2015, 08:28 PM And George was all excited........"Possum stew Whopped DOO!!" LOL waichingliu81 04-30-2015, 07:15 PM And George was all excited........"Possum stew Whopped DOO!!" LOL  he was so hungry Coffeecup 05-01-2015, 11:25 AM Not all road kill is rabid, but on the other hand, meat you buy in the supermarkets is checked over by inspectors. You think centuries ago, no inspectors and you ate what you hunted or found. I too would be nervous eating anything off the road or out in the fields. Johnny be good! 05-07-2015, 08:43 AM My grandfather, who is from Mississippi, use to make it. He would completely gut it before cooking it.
