I guess you'd have to travel to upstate NY to catch a possum, because I have never, ever, once seen a possum in the city streets of New York. Maybe they could hang out in East Long Island???

If you were to see one on the streets of New York,it might be worth more alive then to make stew out of. The fur sells for $100 per kg or 2.2 pounds.

Didn't the Clampetts eat a lot of possum stew?. I do tend to think it was a low end type of meat. But you were hungry, you would eat it. I would rather eat possum than rattlesnake.

Yeah they did. They were country people. I guess if you were poor and grew up on it and that is what you knew to eat ? The thought of eating possum or "road kill" makes me think the animal could be rabid and I'd get very sick! :p

Not all road kill is rabid, but on the other hand, meat you buy in the supermarkets is checked over by inspectors. You think centuries ago, no inspectors and you ate what you hunted or found. I too would be nervous eating anything off the road or out in the fields.

My grandfather, who is from Mississippi, use to make it. He would completely gut it before cooking it.

Yeah...I think I will have to pass on it....but I did like the little chant they made up for it
