I don't see a thread directly about him..if there is one, I'll delete. Do you all think he is alive and well still? Born in 1935. Accused of poisoning his wife. What a crazy case.

Bothered me that this guy has managed to elude capture for so long. I'm guessing he's dead by now though.

I've seen this a couple of times and yeah, I think he's dead for sure, probably in the UK/EU somewhere

What really gets me is that Maloney was able to convince the system to transfer him to a mental hospital in Rochester. The fact that they didn't know about his previous history working there demonstrates their incompetence in looking into his background.

Today, in my opinion, anyone who makes such a request would alone raise a red flag or two.

And it's still hard to believe that SOB has alluded justice.

Just saw this Joe Maloney segment (S04). What a creep & a scum-bag. The fact that he escaped from the mental hospital so quickly (probably since he knew the lay-out, having worked there earlier) just shows how lax security was there.

He obviously emigrated to Ireland because he knew they didn't have an extradition treaty with the U.S., and he could stay there without going to prison. Even when he eventually did go (briefly) he was later let go

I suspect he's passed away by this time, but....who knows?!

I found an article from 1989 that says Maloney remarried and had two children and that he most likely went to Canada. It's as if they just stopped looking for him after 1986. There has to be a record of this marriage, as well as the births of both children. It would be the easiest way to solve this mystery, IMO.

Talking about lax security.. Who was the guy that they let out of jail to go Christmas shopping and he walked away?

Lester Eubanks, I think that's him. Raped and killed a teen and they said "Here, we'll drop you off at the mall.. See you in 2 hours"

And, there's evidence that he's still alive, living in the south pretty much off the grid.

All it would take is for one of his kids to submit a DNA sample to Ancestry.com or such and he'd be found out PDQ I would think......

There is a possibility he may still be alive at 85 or 86 years of age but if he is, he could be in such poor health that they would see no point in sending him back to prison.

It's more of a curiosity factor at this point. He's probably dead, but I'd love to know where he went in 1986 and why nothing was seemingly done to track him down.

You're right, I was just reading articles which the UM wiki linked as sources, and there absolutely zero information on him since 1986.

Someone put this on the UM wiki article:

Authorities believe that he used his contacts with the Irish Republican Army to go "underground" and hide from police. Due to how much time has passed, the authorities are speculating that he might be dead, but this is yet to be confirmed.

But I don't see anything about the IRA in the linked articles, and I don't see how the IRA helping him out makes any sense.

Maloney, taking cover with the IRA? That's rich......lol

Nevertheless, I'm sure by now he's probably dead.

I always felt horrible for the couple's children, losing their mom to the poisoning (committed by their own father) and then having neither parent left. Just awful.

I agree with others that Joe is likely deceased now.

If you want an example of a case where everything went right for a killer, this is that case. His neighbor instructed his whole family not to let Maloney into his lab yet his sister lets him in because she wasn't aware he wasn't supposed to be let in. He gets transferred to what seems like a minimum security mental hospital and then escapes within a few weeks. Then he gets released from prison on a technicality. And finally, it sounds like authorities just stopped looking for him in the late 80's. Whatever is left of his late wife's family must be livid at the way this played out.

Apparently died between 17-20 years ago. Lived in East Germany and northern Cyprus.

There's no conclusive proof, however.

One thing I realized/remembered when looking at that article (thanks for sharing!) is June Maloney's photo was never shown during the UM segment.
If this is indeed true, I'm glad the case is closed. One of those cases I thought I might never see resolved.
