Cristela Alonzo's ABC comedy has a slim likelihood of coming back after tonight's Season 1 finale. "It will be a damn shame — and a mistake by ABC," says Josef Adalian. "Cristela is a funny, family-friendly, sometimes edgy, and almost always entertaining comedy that, based on both its content and its Nielsen performance, deserves to live at least a little longer." PLUS: Cristela is so special (http://flavorwire.com/514545/abcs-cristela-is-the-smart-and-necessary-diverse-sitcom-that-youre-not-watching?) because of its star's clear, strong voice, it's twice as good as any other (http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2015/04/the-radically-formulaic-comedy-of-cristela/390735/) current multicamera sitcom, and read Cristela's "A Possible Goodbye" message (http://cristelaalonzo.com/blog/2015/4/17/my-letter-as-a-possible-goodbye-cristela-season-finale-tonight).

Cristela Alonzo is the first Latina to create, write, produce and star in her own network TV show in the U.S.. Yet that network TV show, Cristela, ends up being another typical case of one that ends up being cancelled after a short run of one or two seasons due to low ratings/viewership. Its reviews were mixed: A 60 on Metacritic and a 50 on Rotten Tomatoes.

There may not be enough space on the schedule for Cristela if it were renewed for a 2nd season, because ANBC Network is so high on their newer single camorra comedies like The Goldbergs and Black-ish, and possibly Fresh Off the Boat (which has had very positive reviews, yet its ratings are mediocre: 1.7 in the 18-49 demo).

I am sorry that something that sends a possible message about Latinos ends up getting itself wasted by low ratings and a cancellation. If Cristela does get canceled, I hope Ms. Alonzo gets something else.

I like Cristela. I've seen almost every episode. I've also seen a few episodes of Fresh Off the Boat. Each show deals with a minority, in a humorous way, avoiding the usual stereotypes. But I think Cristela's show is funnier, and the characters are more likeable. Aside from the excellent comedy-drama (or "dramedy," if you prefer) Jane the Virgin, it is the only current network series to focus on a Latina family. I hope it gets a renewal.

It took a few episodes before I really started liking Cristela, mainly because of the grouchy mother but now I find the mother funny. I hope the show gets a second season.

Yea I wasn't a big fan of the show at first either, but I kept watching it because nothing good was on after Last Man Standing and it grew on me.

I don't understand why it got cancelled. Last Man Standing only got 2 million more viewers and was renewed. Cristela got decent ratings for a Friday night show.
