I still suspect that this won't be full season sets for seasons 1-5, instead it will be a "best of" set from the first 5 seasons.

You were correct and I am kind of disappointed in that it won't be the entire first 5 seasons….

I guess some is better than none at all. I'm excited to see these early episodes but I'd rather see more episodes that have Mrs. Wiggins and The Family.

I wonder how many episodes will be on this set? Hopefully it be at least 20.

Don't know but I have a feeling it will be more than 20…I signed up at TimeLife for updates on the release so I could stay informed about the release.

I also signed up for updates.

Maybe it'll be like the ultimate collection they did. That was an awesome set!

I'm still hoping for another release with more episodes from seasons 7-11. I really want more of The Family and Mrs. Wiggins released! There's still quite a few of The Family sketches that haven't been released, especially from season 11.

Me too…The Family and Mrs. Wiggins were two of my favorite sketches. I think I believe I read where they would have early skits of AS The Stomach Turns…which I loved too!

From reading the article that RonRon linked in this thread, it appears to me that the whole first five seasons will be released, all episodes from each of these seasons. If that is in fact the case, then I will definitely purchase this as the show started in 1967 and at that time I was only two years old. I have memory of watching this and other shows starting about 1970 or 1971 so that means I've never seen the first three seasons and was only a child for seasons four and five. I don't remember these at all. Of course as the 1970s progressed, my family used to watch every Carol Burnett show like most other people did in the U.S. until it went off the air in 1978.

According to the press release, this will be a BEST OF set from seasons 1-5 and NOT every episode from those seasons. The press release states that the episodes on the set will be hand-picked by Carol herself.

tlc38tlc38,

Thanks for the clarification. I must have misread it. I wonder why they're not releasing the whole seasons instead of just select episodes. Oh well, assuming Carol does in fact choose the episodes, then I'm sure it will be good. I'll have to wait to see how many episodes are in the set vs. the price before I decide whether to buy or not.

I'd say this new set will be similar to the ultimate set released a couple years ago. That set had 50 episodes ...I suspect this one will be the same or somewhat the same.

Someone needs to compile an episode guide of the episodes that have been officially released on DVD from Time-Life/StarVista, Columbia House, and Guthy-Renker.

I made a guide for The Family sketches and which ones have been released but I didn't do one for the actual episodes of "The Carol Burnett Show".

Apparently a lot of people did. I did as well….there was talk about it on Facebook under TVSHOWSONDVD page….many thought all 5 seasons were going to be released. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

It will be a box set like the previous one that Time Life did….I did not buy it since I had bought the previously released DVDs by another company. I will be getting this since they are all new but I am disappointed in no complete sets.

I think someone mentioned that it would cost too much to do all the 5 seasons…for many reasons..one was restoring the video….I don't get that since the previous release didn't have that great of a picture quality….just average at best.

September 27, 1975: Cher (from season 9)
January 3, 1976: Rita Moreno (from season 9)

I shall reply to my own question....lol

I did some research and found the answer to my own question...

January 25, 1975: William Conrad & Jackson Five (from season 8) this episode is on volume 31 from Columbia House)
September 27, 1975: Cher (from season 9) this episode is on volume 24 from Columbia House
January 3, 1976: Rita Moreno (from season 9) this episode is on volume 27 from Columbia House

I only own volumes 1-23 so I'm bummed out...I really wanted to see these episode.

Complete seasons would be a nightmare for this show due to all the clearances required for the musical numbers. That's why there have only been compilations released.

Between Columbia House and Time Life, a big chunk of seasons 6-11 have been released. Both companies have done an excellent job with releasing all these episodes. I'm not sure of the exact count, but I know it's somewhere over 70 episodes that have been released. Seasons 6-11 had 144 episodes so that means that about half of them have been released on DVD from those seasons. And now we're finally getting a set with episodes from seasons 1-5.

I'm still hoping for more episodes to be released from season 11. That season had a lot of "The Family" sketches.

Another thing I noticed when looking at the included episodes: Nanette Fabray is featured in 7 of these episodes. That's a lot for this set.

So this is not the complete seasons 1-5, just selected shows from those seasons. I guess it is better than nothing, but 200 dollars is too expensive for incomplete seasons. I'd be interested to see the shows, but not at that price. I need to try and limit expenses these days. I also wouldn't mind seeing episodes of Dean Martin's variety show, also Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, but again too expensive.

I may get these because it has the original tv version of the Broadway musical Once Upon A Mattress. I finally get to see Carol as Winnifred.

I want this set but I really can't afford it right now. Maybe I'll by it in a few months or so. It's not a big rush for me because seasons 1-5 doesn't have The Family, Mrs. Wiggins, or any big characters that I realky like.

I went the installment route on them…don't recall if it was 4 or 5 months of payments.
