"College is a trap if you don't know what exactly what you want to do and it;s not for everyone."

That is true though, so many people in debt and have a degree they can't even use to get a job. I don't think what Chuck was doing after highschool was any of Ann's business anyway. That was his life and if Julie at 18 wanted to be with him then that was her decision as long as they both understood they could not live there

^^ Julie was 17, not 18.
And I think it was Ann's business to an extent because Chuck was a lazy flake who was involving her daughter. Chuck sounded like one of those lazy, flaky, hypocritical hippies. I didn't like him at all.

But not most people know what they want to do at 17. And I was saying that once Julie turned 18 she could have told her that she could move out if she wanted to be with chuck

Chuck was lazy. He got Julie to thinking that the two of them could live with either his parents or with Ann for free. Remember? Chuck didn't want to pay any rent and he had no prospects. He was lazy, flaky and he had no set goals. He was not motivated in any positive way.

Exactly! He was out of this mind. Listen to Julie saying that an option would be to live with Ms. R if Julie and Chuck marry or form a union. She lost her mind.

Yeah he dropped out but if Julie was 18 and wanted to deal with a nothing then Ann could have been like goodbye and that is your choice but you won't live here

Just watch the next three eps. Ann does one of the things you mention.

You're right. Julie did lose her damn mind. She was being brain-washed by Chuck and she was ALLOWING herself to be manipulated by him which actually means she wasn't being manipulated at all. Julie was just being a selfish brat.... it had to be her way or no way. She was being ridiculous.
I can't remember Barbara ever being any trouble at all. Still, she needed her big sister and Barbara loved Julie. I thought it was really rotten that Julie would just abandon her little sister and I also thought it was rotten how she treated her mom like dirt.

Yes. An immature teenage girl who thinks she is in love will do that! Put a guy before her family and good judgment!

Chuck said he his dad was on his job for 22 years and hated

well that means Chuck'a dad was a slacker too:lol:

^^^ Chuck's dad continued to work at his job and support his family like a man, so how does that make him a "slacker"?

Because he never did anything about hating his job. I can imagine being somewhere for 3 years if I hated the job but 22? lol

So yes he was employed but why not set goals to get something else. And he obviously complained about it because that's how chuck knew he hated it

Just because Chuck claims that his dad hates his job doesn't mean it's true. And the dad is far from a "slacker" even if it is true. He worked for a living and supported his family like a father and husband should.

True he did what he had to do to support his family but just can't understand why the man didn't see what else was out there lol

Yes! Just as my mother did for us three boys. She worked two jobs. The job she worked for 11 years until she was let go. I do wish that she had decided to look for something else and had the knowledge to do so but I appreciate the fact she did what she did, though.

^^^ Yes, sounds like your mom knew what was important and what was a priority. Chuck had no intentions of working for a living or being a responsible adult. My mom also worked at a job she didn't like too much, but she did it because she knew she had to support me and my brother. Chuck had no sense of reality or being responsible.
CHUCK WAS A FLAKE!

He was kind of like Lionel on the Jeffersons, it was a lot of opportunities out there he wanted to take a shot at before going to college

At least Lionel never expected Helen Willis to pay for his rent.
You could tell that Lionel was just going through a phase. Lionel was not stupid and he was not a flake.
Chuck was a hipster doofis.

I know that Julie was telling Barbara that she and Chuck would move in with them. Chuck would have been down with that too. LOL.

Not a fan of this 4-part episode. The plot is too stretched out IMO.
I like the actor who plays Julie's boyfriend. I've seen him in other shows, but I think he is miscast here. He's too clean-cut and well-spoken for me to be believable as a slacker. The other couple they picked up are perfect, though.
I guess the writers are going for character development because the laughs are few and far between.

I figured that the couple that the cops picked up wasnt Julie and Chuck. Btw, Howard Morton was in last night's episode. He was in Gimme a Break.

I really liked this 4 part ep! To me it was really heart touching! Being I was a teenager back than, and also I am a Mother. Well I don't want to get to into my business here, but lets just say it was a bit emotional ,:( and I thought it was pretty well done and accurate! ;)

One thing I will say, is under the circumstances both Julie and Chunk ended up showing a good deal of strength and maturity. And Chuck really did show he was a good guy, and he tried his best to take care of Julie! ;)

Chuck was a decent guy. He really did care about Julie. No doubt about it. He may have tried his best to take care of Julie, but the fact is that he best was not good enough. Julie needed to be at home with her mother and her sister.
