Does anyone know how many seasons "Are You Being Served?" ran? Also what years was it originally on? I was watching it earlier today and I had always assumed that it was a fairly recent show. Then I was shocked when I saw the copyright in the closing credits because it said 1973.

This is probably wrong but I think it started in 1972 and ran until either 1983 or 1984.
There was a spin off in 1992 called "Grace and Favour"

From the "Radio Times Guide to TV Comedy" by Mark Lewisohn....
Pilot episode was aired in September 1972.
There were then ten series/seasons of the show running between March 1973 and April 1985.

Thats right, the show ran from 1973 till 1985.
After young Mister Grace's dead the rest of the staff moved to a castle and try to make a hotel of it. And they called that Grace And Favour witch started Jan.92. You can read a lot about it on

 i have a question about the show. it ran from 1973-1985 and the sequel was called "Are You Being Served? Again!" when it aired on the local PBS station in Ohio. what i'm wanting to know is what was the last episode about? the PBS station airs select episodes that are scattershot in their airing. one night a 1973 show is on and the next one from 1976 and so on. the "Mr. Cline" character, when was he added? i saw him on the one episode PBS airs but was he in more? how long was Trevor Bannister on the show?

I don't know what the last episode was about but I think Trevor Bannister left in around 1977. I think it was because he said he thought the show was getting rubbish.

Trevor left to pursue other ventures, namely a play. The show ran out of steam after that. They added some other characters to round out the departure of the Lucas role--namely Mr. Tebbs, Mr. Kline and Mr. Spooner. Mr. Grainger also left. SO the cast was fractured. The last episode of the show that was SHOWN was Episode 69, "The Pop Star"-- The last episode TAPED was Episode 63 "Goodbye Mrs. Slocombe" . Accounts from cast members report how sad and very strange it was to "strike the set" for the very last time after this episode was taped. As with all good things, truly the end had come to a legend in British comedy.

Mr. Klein was played by Benny Lee who appeared in 4 episodes-"Roots?","The Erotic Dreams of Mrs Slocombe","Closed Circuit" and "Heir Apparent".
