I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with this case. It is a series of murders and kidnappings in the upscale city of Boca Raton, otherwise a low-crime area. It has been profiled on 20/20 and perhaps other shows. The first occurred when 52 year old Randi Gorenberg was gunned down on March 23, 2007 in broad daylight.

Not too long after that, on August 7, 2007, a young woman was returning to the parking garage and had just placed her 2 year old son in his seat, and was getting into the driver’s seat when she noticed a man pointing a gun at her young son’s head! He had her drive 30 miles and withdraw $600 from an ATM, and then had her drive back to the mall parking garage and left her and her son there with the car engine running. The lady was able to free herself pretty easily.

Unfortunately, authorities did not believe the woman’s account and the incident didn’t garner significant media attention. Authorities had even told mall security not to worry about it (the security at this mall was described as very good). Perhaps because of these things, another woman and her child were murdered.

On December 13, 2007, 47 year old Nancy Bochicchio and her young daughter (who was going to turn 8 in four days) were gunned down in the mall parking lot, after Nancy was forced to drive to an ATM and withdraw $500.

All of the adult victims drove black SUV’s. In addition, Several of the adult victims were forced to wear blacked-out goggles.

I saw the 20/20 episode. Very creepy case, and frustrating that the police didn't take the crimes seriously. Maybe if they had, the last two victims would still be alive. Surprising that the police and the media didn't make this a priority, considering the upscale location and type of victim. And it looks like either the killer stopped entirely or perhaps moved away and is committing similar crimes we don't know about. It would have made a perfect case for UM.
