In the second season finale episode titled "Empty Nests" (with the plural), Rita Moreno played a next door neighbor and close friend of the girls who misses her college age daughter. She's also frustrated that her doctor husband played by Paul Dooley is spending too much time at the office.

Fast forward a year later, and the show is retooled and retitled with the singular EMPTY NEST. Brand-new cast and characters, too. The only one to survive from the GG episode was David Leisure (aka "Joe Isuzu"), but his character's name was changed from Oliver to Charley.

Empty Nest started airing in 1988 and into the 90s, but shouldn't it be listed in the 1980s section?

I just watched the Golden Girls episode "Empty Nests" and it was not very funny at all. They really did a great job retooling it.

^Completely agree. The retooling was very necessary.

The addition of Laverne Todd was genius! She's one of my all-time favorite sitcom characters.
