View Full Version : FOL was mentioned on Golden Girls!
MyStErIoUs ChIck 03-23-2002, 07:27 PM I was watching Golden Girls the other day but I was on the
computer, so I was just "kinda listening"...and Rose asked
Dorothy if she was upset about something (I don't remember
what about). Then Dorothy was being sarcastic and she said
"No, Rose! I'm upset because they wont play re-runs of FOL
goes to Austrailia"...or something like that. Did anyone see
that episode? If so, what was the exact quote??
Kay Scarpetta 03-23-2002, 10:54 PM I saw that a few months ago but forgot to post it.
And, there was also another refrence to it in another episode. The one where the housekeeper comes.
MrsGarrettRocksMySocks 03-23-2002, 11:45 PM I saw it a while back, but I've seen it a bunch so i think it is, "No Rose, I'm upset because they haven't rerun The Facts of Life Goes to Australia!" I enjoy that. The one where the housekeeper comes, Dorothy says, " Margerete we have something to tell you" and then Blanche says, "yes, but, before we do, I just want you to know that Tootie was always my favorite on 'The Facts of Life!'" lol.....gotta love those FOL quotes. Oh yea, and for those of you who asked about a Facts of Life bok a while back, I've started it.....here's a peek:
Fred Silverman, head of NBC in 1979, was, and is, a huge fan of spin-offs. Knowing that, it should come as no shock that when Diff'rent Strokes was airing on NBC, he wanted a spin-off created. He wanted something to the equivalent of Welcome Back, Kotter. The writer's at Norman Lear's production company got busy and created a masterpiece. A wonderful show that hit hard issues from suicide to losing one's virginity and death in the family. They created a show that is NBC's longest running show to date. It's a wonderfully unique show with one-liners and cute comebacks. They took a housekeeper and moved her to a private school making her a housemother. They gave her teenage girls to look after and advise. What the writer's didn't know, is that so many years later, there would be so many devoted fans, and that the show's reruns would still be airing! Mr. Silverman certainly had a great idea for a show that would catch an audience. Sure, it was never top ten, but this show was better than any of the top ten shows. This show captured the attention of their audience by having characters that were real. These young women were not some dolls in department-store windows. They weren't stick thin with flawless faces. No, these women were real. They went beyond the image of Hollywood and never gave into the pressure of child stardom. These are the wonderful people of The Facts of Life.
well, sorry to go off-topic, but I don't wanna start another topic, and at least it's FOl related!
JoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJo 03-24-2002, 12:51 AM yea, i just watched that like a couple of days ago... it was the one where rumor was running around that Blanche slept with a politician... and Rose was asking Dorthoy is she was upset, and that's when she said that
FOL85NatandMrsGRock 03-24-2002, 09:59 AM Sorry Liz, but FOL isn't the LONGEST running show to date... it is ONE of the longest running show's... cheer's beat FOL to death witht hat one... i believe cheers was on for 11-12 years and FOL was only on for 9... and i think there was another show that was on for a long time as well. I just wanted to clear that up for you! :)

Your right about cheers being the longest running sitcom but it wasn't on NBC FOL was and still is the longest running sitcom on NBC.

YAY!! I was right! LOL...I checked it with this site before I put it in there, so I was pretty sure it was right, although, people make mistakes, yes, Sar, if I said the longest running it was wrong, cause I even know that M*A*S*H went for like 11 years or something. Thanks though for checking it! (I'm glad you did, I wouldn't want to make a fool of myself now would I?!I do a good enough job of that as it is without writing!)
JWood201 03-24-2002, 02:14 PM FOL has some competition for Longest Running Sitcom on NBC -- 'Frasier' is currently in it's 9th season and chances are it'll be renewed for next year ... at least FOL can be the 2nd Longest Running Sitcom on NBC. Until next September, FOL is still #1. lol.
Czas na Zywiec 03-24-2002, 02:51 PM Yep, I remeber that quote! :D I even had it in my siggy for a while. I really love all these TV shows that drop little FOL references! :)

Actually, I think FOL85NatandMrsGRock is correct. I'm almost positive Cheers was on NBC and it ran for ~11 years. Cheers has FOL beat.
However, FOL was the longest running sitcom on NBC at the time it ended.
samanddiane4eva 03-24-2002, 09:52 PM Hate to say it but Cheers was on NBC for 11 years and Frasier's on NBC right now and it's going to be on for 11 years also.

I hope you don't think I was complaining. I was just trying to set the record straight. You're not an idiot, everyone goofs up now and them.
retrospective 03-25-2002, 02:24 PM Besides Blanche making the Tootie comment, then ironically Kim Fields would later appear in the very last season of the show when they changed the name to Golden Palace and she was the love interest of the new character played by Don Cheadle this was after FOL went off the air and before living single.
Kay Scarpetta 03-25-2002, 05:13 PM Hey Retrospective, nice picture!
