Shocker: "Veep" Creator Quits
by Michael Ausiello
April 10, 2015

There’s political upheaval at "Veep", only this time it’s behind the scenes.

TVLine has confirmed that series creator Armando Iannucci is leaving HBO’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus-fronted D.C. satire at the end of Season 4, which bows this Sunday at 10:30/9:30c.

“We have had conversations with Armando for some time about the challenges of maintaining his family life in London and producing a show in the states,” an HBO rep said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Armando is not replaceable but we are confident that Veep will continue to be produced at the highest levels.”

"Curb Your Enthusiasm" vet David Mandel (with whom Louis-Dreyfus worked with on Seinfeld) will replace Iannucci at the helm of the show’s not-yet-officially-ordered fifth season.

"Veep" Creator Armando Iannucci Will Still Exit Show despite Emmy Win
by Marc Snetiker
9/20/15

Now that Veep has taken home the top Emmy prize for Outstanding Comedy Series, it might seem like just cause for series creator Armando Ianucci, who will depart his position as showrunner of the HBO comedy for its fifth season, to stick around.

But Iannucci is maintaining his exit and, now, he’s happy to go out on top, as he told reporters backstage in the press room at the 2015 Emmy Awards.

“Like Italian tennis players who bow out as soon as they win the Open, I think this is a good course to follow,” Iannucci said, joined by his cast.

“I just felt that I took the show to where I wanted to take it, and I’m pleased to pass it on and challenge Dave Mandel to sort out the constitutional issue that we’ve dumped on his floor.”

“I think it feels like the right time,” Iannucci continued. “Every show can benefit from new energy and new names and new ideas, and what better time to do that? So I think it feels right.”
