They have a lot of old shows and we have already added 47 to our Queue. We've struggled for quite a while to find shows on we like and were left with only a few shows each week. :(
The worst part is waiting on them to be mailed back and forth. We only end up with a few disk each week.

I wish we could get something like Me-TV or unlimited internet so we could watch shows online.

I've considered doing this too since it seems like I'm pretty much in the same boat that you are. I do have satellite internet, but it has me on a 15GB per month limit, so there's definitely a strict limit to how much I can view online. If I were to join Netflix then I would also have to go the DVD route since streaming would run up my data too much. I have a few questions.

How much does it cost per month?

You said that you end up with a few discs each week. About how many hours of programming does this equal?

Is the mailing process fairly simple? Does Netflix provide return envelopes?

Where can I view a list of the old shows that Netflix offers?

My question:

If I did the DVD route with netflix, do they offer TV shows on DVD that aren't available to purchase? If so, it'd be useless to me because if there's a show I want to see and it's available, I just buy it.

2. You said that you end up with a few discs each week. About how many hours of programming does this equal?

3. Is the mailing process fairly simple? Does Netflix provide return envelopes?

1. Cost for 1 DVD at a time $7.99, Blu Ray 9.99, 2 is 11.99 or blu ray 14.99, 3 is 15.99 or blue ray for 19.99.

I got 3 disk at a time for 15.99.

2. How many hours of programming depends on what you order. A TV show will last longer than a movie. Let's say you rent 'Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea' , you only get one disk at a time like with a movie. In my case I get 3 disk at a time per season since I opted to rent 3 disk at a time. When you return them they send more. I send them back as soon as we watch them.
I guess an example could be for let's say 'Quincy', if it was 4 shows per disk, multiply that by 3 disk and that could be your how many hours of programming you'd get. You may get get more disk per week, it depends on how long it takes to get them and how long before you send them back. We are slower at watching them.

3. You do get a simple return envelope

4. I clicked on Television to start looking then started typing in names of TV shows.
A Few of the shows I've added to my Queue:
Cannon
Barnaby Jones
Love American Style
Match Game
Evening Shade
Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea
The Rookies
Police Woman
Kojak
The original Hawaii Five O
Jake and the Fatman
Barretta
S.W.A.T
The Mod Squad
Quincy ME
Columbo
AND LOTS OF OTHER SHOWS INCLUDING VARIETY. They have Patty Duke and many of the shows.

tlc38tlc38, they don't carry movies or TV shows that haven't been released to DVD's because it's not possible. I suppose there could be some shows that are no longer put on DVD that might be available and I have added some older movies that I can't afford to buy. I found some of them on Amazon but the sellers stick you with a sky high price.

You can go to Netflix and type in some names to search and see if they have TV shows you'd be interested in.

I'm still somewhat confused. So, how much is it a month for Netflix? Now anything that you download or order, you dont get to keep?

I doesnt seem worth it, honestly. Seems the same amount of money to have Netflix than to have cable. I mean your still paying money to watch tv. Is it really any different then having cable?

There is also ClassicFlix (http://classicflix.com/index.php)which specializes in pre-1970 classic movies and TV Shows. Here's the TV section:

I've never used ClassicFlix, but I've heard good things.

Thanks. I'll probably wait until this fall when baseball season ends before I really look into it.

If I lived in an area where I could get cable then I would be watching a lot of Antenna TV and ME-TV and I wouldn't even consider getting Netflix. Satellite is all I can get here and it costs more money than cable and it has worse programming options than cable.

I've had a terrible experience with Netflix. I signed up Saturday for a free 1 month trial for dvds. Three at a time. Netflix dvds were mailed out Monday. It's Friday, four days later and I still don't have the movies. For me, I find it's not worth it. I will be canceling my Netflix membership before the end of hte month. Also, if the movies never show up I will be charged for them. Netflix has shipped replacement dvds. I hope those show up. I don't want ot have to pay for two sets of dvds that I may never receive.

I hope other people have had better experiences with Netflix.

This is the same problem I have.

It's a rental like Blockbuster was but they send them to you by US Mail and you send them back OR you can watch movies by streaming. I can't get dsl/unlimited internet so I can't stream. The prices vary depending on which plan you pick and I listed the prices above. If I had other options I wouldn't do this.

That's our problem and NOTHING is on to watch. I'd stick up an antenna in a skinny minute if we could pick up anything but we can't. I was told if we had a tower to bypass all the trees and terrain an antenna would work, I can't afford a tower 200 feet tall.
I could buy all the shows but it's pretty costly buying all the seasons of so many shows. I can pay a little each month for now and see a variety. HOPEFULLY in a couple of years we'll relocate and I know we'll pick up plenty with an antenna there.
At this time my husband is battling prostrate cancer and we can't sell our home and try to relocate yet.

If you are not a sports fan of course it's a difference. If you are paying $152 for cable that would decrease to almost $100 a month since you would only have the internet at $50 and Netflix at $9.99

We have both netflix and hulu. With Hulu most of their content is current shows. They also have older shows, such as The Cosby Show and Alf. I recommend both Netlfix and Hulu.

In my dreams I can watch movies and shows online....maybe someday when we can get our home listed, sold and move. I really wish there was unlimited internet available to everyone. :(

When we stayed in a hotel (because of distance) for my husband's cancer surgery we watched some shows online on our laptop, it was SO nice. If we could get unlimited internet we wouldn't need to pay for Dish Network.

I don't know how many channels you get (Remember I gave up on Pay TV eight years ago, and from what I've seen when visiting friends or relatives, I'm glad I stopped watching (and paying for) Cable/Satellite TV). :angryfire Besides, it's cheaper for me to acquire my programming via home video.

I am paying $175.00 a month for internet, TV and telephone. I have a DVR which I love which is $10.00 a month. One day called Comcast to lower the rate but they told me it wouldn't be much less to drop some. My thought is, I go to the in/on the house antenna and probably get 10 stations and a chance of snowy picture, I live below a hill. You go though the years and there are some stations that you are so used to, you can't let go. IF I could pick and choose, it would be wonderful, but you can't.

Wasn't it easier 40-50 years ago watching TV??

I pay $85 per month for TV (Dish), $85 per month for internet and $46 per month for phone.

Some observations....

1.) Netflix is pretty good, and I have watched several TV shows from their service, Kimmy Schmidt, Trailer Park Boys, Arrested Development, Jeffrey Tambor's new show Transparent, and probably other stuff.

2.) In my opinion, this season's new shows on the networks are AWFUL. They just are. I am either not interested at all, or the shows I do like are not good. The few new shows that I do like are not from the Big Four networks.

3.) Good news though, if you have an internet connection and cable, there is SIXTY YEARS plus of TV shows out there. There are pay and free websites out there offering content of reruns.

We have Verizon FIOS and get Me-TV, Antenna, Cozi, Heroes & Icons, Laff and Retro and (hopefully soon - Decades TV). There are not many current TV shows that interest me and therefore I consider us lucky to have access to the classic channels. We do also have Roku and there are some interesting channels - like B/W - that offer classic TV options as well as Hulu/Hulu Plus.

Netflix doesn't really care about their DVD service anymore. It'll probably be phased out eventually. Streaming is where it's at.

Patty Duke, my thoughts are with you and your husband.

You know, if Netflix has to mail you what you want, then why didn the video stores go out of business? I'd much rather get in the car and go to my local video store and get what I need to get instead of waiting for days on DVD's that you want via the mail.

Btw, I'm paying a little less for cable now. I had the Sports Entertainment taken away plus a modem and a cable box, so the bill is still 140 bucks. Thats because of taxes and any late fees. I have to pay a late fee because I pay the bill at the end of the month, so they charge me which isnt right.

I asked Comcast how I can lower my bill, threatened to go somewhere else and they mentioned the Comcast triple play for 89.99 but you still have to pay for taxes and whatnot and the service protection plan. Dont think its worth it.
