Marvel Developing "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Spin-off for ABC -- Exclusive
by James Hibberd
4/9/15

Huge news for "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." fans. Not only is a third season of the action-adventure series pretty much guaranteed, but Marvel is quietly developing a spin-off for ABC.

We’re told a spin-off is being developed by "S.H.I.E.L.D." executive producer Jeffrey Bell (Angel, The X-Files) and "S.H.I.E.L.D." writer Paul Zbyszewski (Lost, Hawaii Five-0).

We don’t know which characters from the current series will be moving over to the proposed spin-off – so let the speculation begin on that. There won’t be an implanted pilot episode this season directly setting up the spin-off, either.

However, story elements that are still to come on "S.H.I.E.L.D." this year will be used to lay the groundwork for the potential new series. So by the end of the season – assuming the details for this project haven’t already leaked, which is rather unlikely – the spin-off concept should be clear.

Under the best-case scenario, the spin-off would hit ABC as soon as this fall. But there are other timing possibilities too, including midseason. Of course, the spin-off also might not even happen.

Not only is "S.H.I.E.L.D." not yet officially renewed, but ABC has yet to select which of its crop of pilots will receive series orders – decisions that could impact the spin-off plan.

"S.H.I.E.L.D." currently averages 7.4 million viewers and a 2.8 rating among adults 18-49, when including seven days of DVR playback. If greenlit, the spin-off would expand Marvel’s TV empire yet again.

On ABC there’s "S.H.I.E.L.D." and "Agent Carter" (that latter, we’re told, has about a roughly 60 percent chance of returning for a second season). Plus the studio has its multi-title Netflix slate in the pipeline which launches tomorrow with "Daredevil".

ABC does not comment on current development, and Marvel had no comment.

Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood Cast as Leads for "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Spin-off
by Shelli Weinstein
Apr 20, 2015

ABC's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." spin-off has found its leads, according to Deadline. Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood have been tapped to lead the series, though no story details are available.

Palicki and Blood both joined "S.H.I.E.L.D." in Season 2 as ex-husband-and-wife Barbara "Bobbi" Morse -- a.k.a. Mockingbird -- and mercenary Lance Hunter. Their Mr. and Mrs. Smith-esque dynamic that would surely play into the spin-off.

Events in the remainder of the super series are likely to lead into the spin-off's plot.

Currently, Morse and Hunter are on some rather treacherous rocks after Morse deceived Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the team in order to steal Nick Fury's (Samuel L. Jackson) toolbox for "the real S.H.I.E.L.D." led by Edward James Olmos as Agent Robert Gonzales.

The spin-off series is being developed by "S.H.I.E.L.D." exec producer Jeffrey Bell and writer Paul Zbyszewski.

"Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D." Spin-off Not Going Forward at ABC
by Nellie Andreeva
May 7, 2015

I hear ABC and Marvel have put the brakes on the proposed "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." spinoff. The project was supposed to be set up by events from this season of and toplined by Season 2 cast additions Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood, revolving around their respective characters Lance Hunter and Barbara “Bobbi” Morse, aka Mockingbird.

ABC and Marvel had no comment. The project had been developed quietly by executive producer Jeffrey Bell and co-executive producer Paul Zbyszewski.

"S.H.I.E.L.D." fans have been divided by the spinoff, and there had been some backlash to the idea of taking some of the strongest new characters on "S.H.I.E.L.D." away from the mothership series.

There was an inkling that the spinoff might not be going forward when ABC tonight renewed both existing Marvel series, "S.H.I.E.L.D." for a third season, and "Agent Carter", which bridged "S.H.I.E.L.D.’s" half-seasons this year, for a second.

ABC and Marvel also are secretly working on a potential series with John Ridley, who will be busy with a second installment of "American Crime", just picked up by the network.

Adrianne Palicki‘s Mockingbird is taking flight.

ABC has given a pilot order to "Marvel’s Most Wanted", an "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." spinoff, starring Palicki as Bobbi Morse (aka Mockingbird), our sister publication Variety reports. The prospective series will also reportedly star Nick Blood as Lance Hunter.

Rumblings of a Morse-Hunter spinoff began in April, but come May, the series was considered to be D.O.A.
