Folks in Celoron, N.Y. are taking issue with the unflattering depiction, with one local starting a Facebook page titled, "We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue."
king of comedy 04-04-2015, 07:05 AM That is scary!! But funny! What would Lucy say if she were still alive?

Scary, yet funny. That pretty much sums it up! I laughed when I saw the picture of this statue. If I were to see this statue somewhere, knowing nothing about it, I would never guess it was supposed to be a depiction of Lucille Ball. It's ironic that it's depicting the Vitameatavegamin scene because I'm guessing the artist was very drunk when he made this statue.
From the sculptor's website, his list of public collections doesn't include this one. :) http://www.davepoulinstudios.com/pages/public.html
pkripper001 04-04-2015, 08:46 PM I think the statue looks like Roy DeSoto from EMERGENCY!
They can call it a tribute statue of Roy DeSoto and just add a fireman helmet.
gidgetgrape 04-05-2015, 12:03 AM The teeth and the eyes are especially scary! I just imagine this thing coming to life and killing everyone in town. To loosely quote Lucy, it looks like a nightmare you would have after too much Chinese food.

LOL!!! Yeah, sort of! :D
LittleRickyII 04-05-2015, 01:20 PM Re: Roy DeSoto, this statue would be an insult to him, too. Thankfully, there are accurate and flattering representations of Lucille Ball elsewhere. Here are a few examples: The Television Academy in Los Angeles; Palm Springs, California; and a wax representation at Madame Tussaud's in New York.
LittleRickyII 04-05-2015, 01:47 PM A better likeness, perhaps? Maybe there's a place that honors horror movies where this can be moved.

I saw a comment someone posted about the statue on another site. They said it resembled a gilled creature, and I thought, Yes! It's the Creature from the Black Lagoon!

 Those are hilarious! Thanks, ChrisTV. That really made me laugh. And ultimately it's a good thing that laughter is coming out of this because laughter is Lucille Ball's legacy after all.
I was looking at that Facebook page last night and someone commented that the statue looks like Ed Sullivan. Except for the eyes, I thought they might actually have a point.
king of comedy 04-06-2015, 04:41 PM OMG!!! Hilarious!!!
Bonniegirl 04-06-2015, 04:54 PM I still think more like Roy Desoto!!! LOL!!!!
ChrisTV 04-06-2015, 04:58 PM Today on "The Talk" they did a 3 minute segment on this.
So funny how no one sees any similarity.
Only a similarity between it and a monkey.
JamesG 04-06-2015, 09:20 PM "Scary" Lucille Ball Artist Apologizes: It Is "By Far My Most Unsettling Sculpture"
by Emmet McDermott

The sculptor responsible for the "frightening" Lucille Ball statue that's been terrorizing local residents is now offering to fix it for free, admitting it is "by far my most unsettling sculpture."
In a letter to The Hollywood Reporter, artist Dave Poulin writes, "I take full responsibility for 'Scary Lucy,' though by no means was that my intent or did I wish to disparage in any way the memories of the iconic Lucy image."
The 400-pound bronze sculpture, which was privately commissioned and publicly displayed in Ball's hometown of Celoron, NY in 2009, upset many locals and even inspired a Facebook group dedicated to its removal ("We Love Lucy! Get Rid of This Statue.")
"From the day of its installation," Poulin continues. "I have shared my disappointment in the final outcome and have always believed it to be by far my most unsettling sculpture, not befitting of Lucy’s beauty or my ability as a sculptor. Yes, in retrospect, it should have never been cast in bronze and made public, and I take complete ownership of that poor decision."
Poulin says he's willing to refurbish the statue at his own expense.
"Over the years," he writes, "I have felt blessed to have inspired and touched the lives of thousands of people who do enjoy my other works, and am heartsick at the feelings that have been evoked as a result of the Celeron Lucy. I am a down to earth, hard worker from a humble background. I enjoy what I do, and if a handful of decent folks can find some enjoyment in my work, I am OK with that."
Poulin says he'll be going back to the Village of Celoron to "offer to remove the current statue with the promise of creating a new beautiful and charming 'Lucy' in its place."

Coffeecup 04-11-2015, 01:53 PM At first I thought it was Julia Child. The sculptor that did Andy Griffith made the face look like Andy. What happened here?

And other sculptors have made Lucy look like Lucy. This isn't her only statue, thank goodness.

JamesG 05-12-2015, 01:29 PM "Scary" Lucille Ball Statue to Be Removed, Placed in New Comedy Center
by The Associated Press
5/12/15
The statue of Lucille Ball in her western New York hometown may not be very flattering, but it sure is funny.
The "Scary Lucy" statue has made enough people laugh to earn a spot in the new National Comedy Center breaking ground soon.
Chairman Tom Benson says the center will embrace the statue not as a likeness of the late comedian but as a tribute to what she was about — making people laugh.
The Celoron Village Board voted Monday to give the statue to the center, expected to open next year in nearby Jamestown. The bronze sculpture was unveiled in 2009 in Lucille Ball Memorial Park. Critics say it looks nothing like the "I Love Lucy" star.
It gained attention after the launch of a Facebook campaign called "We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue."

Bonniegirl 05-12-2015, 03:00 PM I still can't watch Emergency with a straight face after all this. As was posted before Roy Desoto looks so much like that goofy Lucy statue!
JamesG 10-06-2015, 03:52 PM 'Scary Lucy' Statue Inspires New York Mall's Halloween Display
by The Associated Press
10/6/15
It's a role "Scary Lucy" was born to play: frightening people at Halloween.
A bronze statue of Lucille Ball that drew worldwide scorn earlier this year for its unflattering depiction of the "I Love Lucy" star has provided inspiration for an annual haunted house event in a mall near her western New York town.
Event planner Scott Mekus says an actor portraying the statue will be part of the Chautauqua Mall's "Haunting at the Mall" during weekends through Halloween.
