"New Girl" returns with all-new episodes Tuesday - and there will be a lot more new episodes to come: Fox announced Tuesday that it has renewed the comedy for a fifth season.

“Four seasons in, New Girl continues to be one of the smartest and most relatable comedies on television,” said Fox entertainment president David Madden. “The writing is razor-sharp, the ensemble is consistently hilarious, and we couldn’t be more proud of… the entire New Girl team. We absolutely love this show and we’re so excited to bring it back for Season Five.”

Meanwhile, TVLine has exclusively learned that John Cho (Harold & Kumar, Selfie) will play a guy Jess meets when she excitedly reports for Jury Duty during Season 5.

Tuesday's new episode - in which Jess (Zooey Deschanel) crashes a funeral in order to delete a sext she sent to the deceased - features guest appearances from NFL player J.J. Watt, and SNL alums Nora Dunn and Nasim Pedrad.

Season 5 will also include the show's landmark 100th episode.

Fox is considering giving the 5th season of the Zooey Deschanel comedy a "virtually uninterrupted" at midseason, according to Deadline, so that it could avoid baseball interruptions.

There is a rule about getting pregnant in the middle of the series and that is too abruptive.

They want a season of virtually uninterrupted original episodes, eh?

There are about 20 or so Tuesdays between 5 January (the day of New Girl's Season 5 premiere) and the end of the 2015-16 network TV season. Any estimates on what exactly the episode order of NG's Season 5 is?

So much for a season of uninterrupted original episodes. I have now learned that New Girl will not be airing, original or repeat, on April 5 due to a 90-minute American Idol retrospective titled "American Dream" (8:00-9:30 PM), which is part of the American Idol three-night series finale event. Brooklyn Nine-Nine will still air an original episode on that night, at 9:30.

Also, according to The Futon Critic (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/showatch/new-girl/listings/), season 5 of New Girl will have 22 episodes anyway, despite it being held until midseason (which usually means abbreviated seasons).

And finally, John Cho's guest spot on NG was in episode 3 of its fifth season, titled "Jury Duty" (aired January 19, 2016). Cho played a character named "Daniel Grant".

It has now been decided that New Girl will air two original episodes a week, starting with the 15th and 16th episodes of its current fifth season on April 16. The airing pattern will continue until its season finale on May 10. This means Season 5 of New Girl will have aired over the course of 18 weeks (not counting the break it is taking on April 5 because of American Idol's "American Dream" retrospective). The Fox Network has stated that this scheduling change is the only way to fit in all of the season's 22 episodes.
