I saw that video too! It was interesting throughout the entire thing. It was so amazing. Once question though, are girls usually afraid of getting pregnant or something?
Mossopp 03-23-2002, 07:45 AM I'm never having children - for purely selfish reasons.
My mother used to be really thin and beautiful - she weighed, like 100lbs - then she gave birth to me and her body has never recovered! I enjoy being thin waaaaaaaay too much to let a baby spoil things.
Babies are really expensive and I don't like spending my money on anyone but myself!
I'd just be a lousy parent. I get bored with thigs real easy. Like, I'll buy a video game, play it once and then put it away and never look at it again. You can't just shove a baby away in a cupboard as soon as you get bored with it and I don't have the commitment that a baby needs.
And all these arguments are redundant anyway cos I don't even like children in the first place.
Beruche 03-23-2002, 07:55 AM Definitly NOT! Whats the point? If I ever did have children they would probably just be depressed and stupid. Also everyone is gonna die anyway so honestly I see no point in life especially since some people (like myself) are failures or gonna end up failures.

A lot of people are gonna pull you up about your pessimistic attitude but I can kinda see your point.
I hated my parents when I was a teenager cos I was really depressed and I hated myself and I hated them because they did nothing to help me.
Having children is a really self-centred thing. Most men just want kids so they can proove to the world what studs they are and most women just want kids so they can have someone to mould in their own image.
I sometimes wonder why my parents even bothered having me cos I know I didn't turn out how they wanted me to - they've told me so on several occasions.

Uhg well I hope not because its my own opinion.

That pretty much is what I think. If I did have children they would probably be really depressed (like me) and well most likley hate me and enough people hate me allready. I also know what you mean by that parents want their kids to turn out like them. Well so far I'm the exact opposite of my mother and she reminds of it everytime I see her.

Czas na Zywiec 03-23-2002, 05:28 PM I really hated that movie I saw in 9th grade! I wanted to look away, but they FORCED us to look! I can't believe that make that mandatory for high school freshman! I mean it's hard enough being a newbie. I think they should maybe show it later, like in your sophomore or junior year.
Montana Ponine 03-23-2002, 05:31 PM The thought of having kids and going through the whole..birth thing...definitely freaks me out!! i dunno if i'll ever have kids. but its funny cuz i was thinking about this thing like yesterday..it's always the MEN and the FATHERS that are getting more freaked out about becoming parents than the MOTHERS are. i find that kinda weird..i mean women are the ones who are actually going to have to go through the whole thing..weird.
omg btw JOblairJOblair i love ur avatar!!!!!!!! i love cats!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhh memory...all alone in the moonlight..lol sorry just had to say that.

Exactly. I don't know if I want kids. If I ever do I'm adopting. I'm afraid I'd be such a bad parent.

angelofmusic 03-24-2002, 12:24 AM I want kids. I want a boy and a girl, and I'm going to name them Abby and John... And I'm adopting.
Oh, yeah and I'm gonna merry Goran Vinsjic. And we'll all live happily ever after.
I'm NOT going through child birth. No way. It's to PAINFUL. Not that I'm being selfish, ya see if I went through that pain, I'd end up screaming things at my poor future husband. Stuff like,
"You are SO getting a visectemy when this is over!"
..........So, um, in the end it's better to adopt.
Really, though, I DO want kids, and I do plan to adopt. Or I may foster, just because I want to help, I guess. (And I AM going to marry Goran Vinsjic :D )
Oh, and I LOVE Cats. And all musicals.
No kids here, no way no how. I'm too impatient! I'd end up yelling and nagging at them and totally losing my sense of humor. I don't want to do that, and I'm not a kid person.
It's funny how many people agree with me here! All of my friends want to have kids - my best friend wants 5 if you can believe it, and my friend who's getting married is planning on 3. *shakes head* I guess some people are kid people, some people aren't.
JoPol_wannabe 03-24-2002, 12:52 AM I would love to have kids, I think babies are the cuties things ever and I'm such a kid myself but I would probably adopt because I can't take pain see I broke my collar bone and that was bad enough. But in a way I would like to have my own kids just to see what they would look like and act like but I don't want to go through all that pain.
angel676 03-24-2002, 01:23 AM Someday I would like to have children. Even though I can't stand pain what-so-
ever, to me it would be worth it. Knowing
that I gave life to this tiny little baby and knowing that this little baby knows
that I am his or her mommy.
I'm not against adoption, but it would
break my heart if my son or daughter
came to me, let's say at the age of 16,
and asked me "who are my real parents"?
I couldn't handle that! I'm not saying
that "will" happen, but it usually does!
JMO!!!
Cokies 03-24-2002, 02:20 AM Eventually I'll have kids. The actual event of labor isn't exactly something I'm looking forward to, but everything else afterward will make it all worth it.

saw lol
I want to have kids. I really like children and I've always wanted to be a mom. I know how much they can change your life and how much you have to sacrifice, but when the time comes I think I'll be totally ready for it.
The whole labor thing doesn't bother me. Women have been doing it for thousands of years so it can't be that bad. Yeah, I know it's really painful and even a little scary, but it only lasts several hours to a day. I think I can deal with that. Especially knowing that it is all for a very good reason. Besides, there are epidurals to help with the pain.
I find it interesting that some of you want to adopt in order to avoid childbirth. Now I think it's great if you want to adopt because you like the idea of helping a child who doesn't have a home. But some of you seemed to imply that you would adopt because childbirth is too painful. Is this correct? Is childbirth really that terrifying to you? Haven't you ever done something unpleasant in order to end up with something wonderful? I'm just curious. :D
One more thing. If you're planning on adopting a new baby, you're probably in for a long wait. There are lots of couples who can't have babies of their own who are on waiting lists to adopt a newborn. If you're planning on adopting an older child, that's wonderful because I'm sure there are plenty who need good homes.
Before Lynn came along to add her comments I was beginning to wonder if you all were going to be the final generation of the civilized world. I've been amazed to read how many of you see childbirth and raising children as an overwhelming challenge beyond your ability or desire to undergo. Come on! Buck up! We're going to need you. Kids really aren't so bad. They're funny even when they're screaming bloody murder.

:rotflmao: I was thinking something similar. I really am a little surprised at how many people are against having children.
As for myself, at this stage in my life, I am completey ambivalent towards having children. I am not in anyway opposed to the idea, but I am not one of these people who is completely dead set on having them and already know how many and picked out names and all that....really, I'm not even going to consider whether or not to have children until I am married.
And as for the pain....wake up people! This ain't the Dark Ages. Modern medicine has come a long way, and as I understand it (please someone correct me if I am wrong) there are drugs out nowadays that make labor nearly painless.
Chocoholic 03-25-2002, 04:39 PM I love kids!!! :D I've always wanted to have 4 kids, 2 boys and 2 girls. My dream is to someday get married, buy a big house in a nice, small town, and raise my children. I want to be a stay-at-home mom, if possible.
JDS84 03-26-2002, 08:20 PM I want 2 kids a little boy and a little girl. I love kids. I think babies are just so prescious. Every time I hold one of my relatives babies it makes me want them even more.
