Does the Bible really say you can take one day of rest? This is what keeps me up at night in 2015.

In Genesis chapter 1 God spent 6 days creating the world and on the 7th day he rested. Based on that the Israelites in the Old Testament set aside one say a week as a day of rest or Sabbath (Saturday - the 7th day of the week)i. Likewise in the New Testament the church set aside a day for rest but moved it to the first day of the week (Sunday) in recognition of the fact that it was on the first day of the week that Christ rose from the dead.

This may or may not be what the original poster is referencing :
In the episode of Mama's Family [''Pomp and
Circumstance,''original air date 6 November 1987],Mama tells about her cousin
Claude who's wanting a $50 hunting rifle for a graduation present but instead
receives a Bible. Claude stormed out of the house and didn't return
until his father's funeral. After the funeral, he was looking through the
attic, and found the Bible.Tucked inside was a fifty dollar bill.

Bubba then asks ''Why didn't his daddy just tell him? and Mama replies, ''Why
didn't Claude just read the Bible?''

Yes, I'm aware of that episode and the series itself had many religious references but I'm not sure why a question this general is a "Mama's Family" thread and not in the "off topic" section of the site.
