View Full Version : Update on Renee Lamanna
wiseguy182 03-27-2015, 03:03 AM Wow. I didn't think the odds of her being alive at this point were too good, considering she's been missing for over 20 years and disappeared under-dressed in below freezing temperatures, but apparently there have been many recent sightings of her in Asheville, North Carolina (same area Zebb Quinn disappeared from).
Here's a link to her updated CP page. She was also suffering from anorexia nervosa at the time of the disappearance. I have 2 loved ones who suffer from that and know firsthand how much it can take a toll on a person's physical and mental well being.

Murkywaters 03-27-2015, 03:20 AM From one of the Facebook posts I read, it seems she wandered into a gas station in Virginia and told them her name was Renee Laman.
She also told people "I have been looking for my family for a long time. I don't know why they can't find me." She had a suitcase full of worn maps from different states, She also said she's hitchhiking to Florida because that's where her family lives. Her sister, Margaret LaManna, lives in West Palm Beach Florida.
Here are the two photographs of Renee taken.

wiseguy182 03-27-2015, 08:18 AM ^thanks for that, the pics of that woman do look like the age progression photo. It has to be her. I'm guessing because she's in a different state than the one she disappeared from and she left off the last two letters to her last name, that's why they had trouble making the connection.
It looks like she's been eating well. I was concerned there as she was only 100 pounds when she vanished.
I feel this case is definitely solvable. Sad to hear she's been looking for her family all these years and couldn't find them. Hopefully they can positively ID her and she can be reunited with her family. She may also need mental help.
James T 03-27-2015, 10:21 AM This is confusing-is that car & phone hers? If she doesn't know who she is or where her family are then how has she survived for 2 decades?

I see your point. Can't really tell, but the phone looks to be huge, so perhaps it's a dated pic, or she's using an ancient phone.
It's interesting to note the CP page says she disappeared with a blue bathrobe. While it was eventually found, in the pictures she's wearing a blue something-rather. Can't really tell if it's a robe or what, but she appears to be using it as a shawl. Perhaps she has a fondness for blue robes and stuff?

Renee was suffering from anorexia as well as anxiety at the time of her disappearance. An investigator told Action News they found the woman wandering around Asheville, North Carolina. She didn't have ID so they couldn't check her into a shelter, but officers took her to an all-night restaurant so she would be safe. I guess that's how Renee has been living the last 21 years, in all-night restaurants, soup kitchens, ect. Her sister also said truck drivers have been taking care of her. Giving her money and food. It's extremely sad, it makes me wonder how many more of the missing are in situations like her and can't remember who they are or if they are missing.

"Renee suffers from Dissociative Fugue Disorder, a rare disorder where Renee may not know her name or how long she has been away."
Sounds like she may not even be able to explain how she's been living for the past 20 years.
She doesn't have a car (she's hitchhiking) and I'm sure the phone was borrowed from whoever took the photos. It sounds like all she owns are clothes and maps.
MegtheEgg86 03-31-2015, 09:35 AM Renee's case was definitely one in which I did not suspect the outcome would involve her being found alive, as it seemed she was very mentally unstable at the time of her disappearance. The prospect that she may be alive is a very exciting one. The photographs look a LOT like the composite.
wiseguy182 04-16-2015, 01:08 AM Dang! I hope she didn't slip through our fingers, so to speak. Authorities believe she left for Florida, they may not be aware of her situation down there.
Murkywaters 04-16-2015, 07:46 AM Shouldn't she be in Florida by now? It's been a while since she said she was going down there.
This is the latest article on Renee.

Murkywaters 05-17-2015, 07:03 AM Woman Missing For 21 Years Spotted In Lexington
May 16, 2015
Renee LaManna has been spotted several times lately here in Lexington, most recently Thursday. Her family is hoping these most recent sightings could be the ones that will finally bring her home.
LaManna, who has severe amnesia, hasn't been seen by her family since January 8, 1994.
http://www.lex18.com/story/29077891/...d-in-lexington
I guess she ended up in Lexington, Kentucky instead of Florida.
wiseguy182 05-18-2015, 12:26 AM Here's a link to where they have a better recent picture of her. Also nice to see the giant, semi-truck size advertisement for her return.
https://twitter.com/reneelamanna
Scroll down a little further, and you can see some advertisements for Christopher and Lisa Zaharias, which I believe is one of the oldest (if not, they oldest) family abduction case on the Charley Project, missing since 1987, as well as some pictures of them I haven't seen, and very recent age-progression photos.
Here's another article with a bunch more interesting info.

This is Renee's official Facebook page. Her sister is getting tips all the time. There have two more sightings of Renee by police officers who gave her a ride. One last year, and one recently. Renee had chapped lips, very sunburnt and overdressed for the weather.

ah, thank you for that, that is more encouraging. She seemed to exclusively be on the Eastern seaboard, at least for the first part of the year, but some more recent sightings are everywhere from Ohio to Montana to Texas. She could literally be anywhere in the U.S. right now.
Murkywaters 08-25-2015, 04:10 AM New sighting of Renee! Renee has been sighted at the Walmart on Wade Hampton Boulevard, downtown Greenville, SC just a couple weeks ago.

1990 UM fan 08-25-2015, 01:06 PM If this homeless woman is really Renee, why can't the police keep her until family can come and pick her up? This country is a cruel place and not safe for an older woman, homeless and confused, to be wandering around. I hope she comes back to her family soon.

There's been about four police officers who have contacted Renee's sister saying they have picked her up hitchhiking before and dropped her off at various places. Homeless shelters can't take in people without ID. After all they could be child molesters, arsonists ect.
Truckers are the best in America. They've been keeping Renee alive for the last 21 years. The most recent witness said Renee was talking to herself, Renee was heard saying ''God walks with me, and God keeps me safe.''
wiseguy182 08-26-2015, 08:18 AM I've contacted some people I know in the south to Be On The Lookout (BOLO) for her. If you use facebook, please share one of the articles so we can get the word out.
I think a lot of people have legitimately spotted her and some of have helped her, but didn't realize she was missing or have otherwise not made the connection and that's why she's still out there.
wiseguy182 09-16-2015, 08:08 AM here's a new article with some more information, the sightings continue unabated:

Sadly, Renee's 14 year old brother died before her disappearance.
Just before her disappearance, her sister had tried to get the psychiatric hospital to admit Renee, but they refused.
This is concerning: One of the sightings in the last year stated Renee had ran into traffic after becoming agitated.
Murkywaters 09-18-2015, 04:43 AM Another new article with video, it includes the witnesses who saw her.

Murkywaters 09-18-2015, 04:50 AM What I find incredible is Renee has still maintained her vegetarian diet even while homeless, Renee's sister said when the good Samaritan bought her some things from the store she thanked them so much for their generosity but told them she can't eat the hotdog and burger because she's a vegetarian and she doesn't drink carbonated beverages. However she asked if she could swap them for a vegetarian lasagna and something else. She also told them about things she likes, like how her favorite bird is the peacock and she loves all the colors of the peacock.

wiseguy182 11-30-2015, 01:59 AM Lots of sightings recently in the Greensboro, NC area.
Here is an article with more info. Apparently those pics of her were pretty recent, with one being taken just a little over a year ago. Another was apparently a mug shot, so she must have been arrested for something at some point (?!)

wiseguy182 03-09-2016, 07:44 AM What a painful update. I thought there was going to be a reunion.
Murkywaters 03-09-2016, 08:40 PM Here is the updated PDF profile for Renee LaManna.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1s...ROOE9TMG8/view
It includes the last sightings known of Renee, in New Jersey and New York. The Federal Databases need to find Renee and how they work. And some information on the Roadblocks to finding Renee, and all missing adults who are either mentally ill, homeless or mentally challenged. Mainly, the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability act. Who in the name of ''patient privacy'' can restrict agencies from sharing critical information. There was also many 'hits' on Renee's NCIC. During 21 years, her family was never notified of those queries until now.

I'm not very surprised, but it is sad news. Unfortunately, I think Renee succumbed soon after her disappearance, possibly due to the cold. It was January in New Jersey and she was not wearing a lot of clothes, nor was she in a good mental state.
1990 UM fan 01-08-2019, 07:48 AM Renee Lamanna disappeared exactly 25 years ago today. Keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
