View Full Version : Top Ten Episodes of Season Two upperco 03-23-2015, 10:03 PM http://jacksonupperco.com/2015/03/24/the-ten-best-maude-episodes-of-season-two/ Kasey 03-24-2015, 08:35 AM Loved reading your choices although I do strongly disagree with some. I always felt like "Music Hath Charms" was like two different episodes stitched into one with the organ plot composing the first half, the restaurant scene the last and it just didn't gel for me. Also, I never liked Maude's over-the-top Crawfordesque harangue in "The Wallet"--it just seemed out-of-character and Arlene Golonka never felt like a good fit for this show in either of her appearances. None of the Florida-centric episodes worked for me either, as Esther Rolle was not a naturally funny actress (amazing she got her own show in spite of it). I do agree with "Maude's Revolt" (love Bea playing solitaire in rhythm with the music and dancing in her bedroom before disgustingly slamming the door); "The Will" with it's hilariously ironic ending; "Maude's Facelift Pt 1" is perfect but Pt 2 is a HUGE comedown and terribly padded. "The Tax Audit" is my favorite of the Season; a flawless script with not one extraneous line of dialogue. The only drawback is that of the main cast, only Maude and Walter are featured but even that can't detract it's perfection. I would have included "Double Standard" (worth it alone for the 'charades' sequence and "Maude's Guest" (Tamu gives a hysterically funny performance in the Valentines scene). Look forward to Season Three's picks. |
