View Full Version : Cheers Reunion on Frasier!
Dr. Lilith Sternin 03-22-2002, 01:03 AM I'm am SO excited!!! :happyface
So, does anyone know exactly WHO will be at the bar when Frasier goes to visit? I know Carla is definitely going to be there, because Rhea Perlman was in the preview. Normie and Cliffie will be there too, right? I'd assume Sam would be there! I doubt Diane will... if Lilith is not in that episode, I'll be pissed. LOL I mean, Frasier can't very well visit beantown without seeing his ex-wife and son, right?!
Anybody know more on this topic?
Brian Damage 03-22-2002, 07:17 PM Sam will not be a part of the reunion. He has committments to Becker. I believe that Bebe is working on Broadway, so I doubt that she'd be available either. the only people that would be readily available are guys like Rhea Perlman, George Wendt, John Ratzenberger, Woody Harrelson and Kirsty Alley. Not Bad!

It will be April 30th, with Rhea Perlman, George Wendt, and John Ratzenberger.
Dr. Lilith Sternin 03-22-2002, 11:34 PM Bebe's not doing any show on Broadway as of right now. All she's been doing since Everett Beekin closed is benefits. She could have so went out and did that episode! UGH.
Same with Ted... he's already in CA. He could have done ONE episode. *sigh* It's not going to be a REAL Cheers reunion without Ted, Shelley, or Bebe, but... I digress.
Frasier W. Crane 03-23-2002, 12:01 AM Sorry, but it is true. The only people in the Cheers reunion thing are Cliff, Carla, and Norm. Plus, the regulars of Paul and Phil. Hey, but its cool! I haven't seen Rhea Perlman on TV in a while. George Wendt was on Becker a couple of weeks ago, John Ratzenberger was on The Drew Carey Show in September and Paul Willson was on Malcolm in the Middle 2 weeks ago! I'm glad Frasier is going back because this year marks the 20th anniversery that Cheers came on!!

dugferd 03-24-2002, 08:40 PM Most of the characters who aren't in this episode have already had entire episodes dedicated to them. (such as "The one where {*****} shows up")
***** insert character name here: Woody, Diane, Sam.
Dr. Lilith Sternin 03-24-2002, 09:49 PM Yes, but its not a TRUE Cheers reunion if most of them aren't there. :( Oh, well... I suppose I'll survive! I still don't get why they couldn't have had Bebe on the episode! Ugh.
Janice 03-24-2002, 10:54 PM It won't be a true reunion without Ted, Shelley, and Bebe. Sam and Diane were the main stars of the show for 5 years, and as stated earlier, Frasier has to see Lilith and Frederick.
I wonder why they're REALLY not participating? I'd think Ted and Bebe could've worked it into their schedules, and Shelley doesn't seem too busy these days.
I guess everyone has their stories and reasons for not taking part in the reunion.
Frasier W. Crane 03-25-2002, 01:37 AM Shelley is working on "Brady Bunch In The White House" its a tv movie aring on fox in may. So that probably why.........plus, she had a grudge with the cast and crew of cheers
peter may 03-25-2002, 09:19 AM Why should Shelley be there. She left Cheers years ago. If anyone should be there it's Rebecca, (Kirstie Alley), now that Veronica's Closet has been canned.
Plus shes better than Diane anyway.

Why so? We were discussin' the relationship of Shelley and the rest of the cast when she left under the thread "Shelley vs. The Cast" at the "Cheers" board. From readin' the posts over there I haven't heard of Shelley still havin' a grudge with anyone...interesting...
I'm all ears if you've got more to say! :)

Shelley should be there because she's an integral part of the show's history. Sam and Diane--everyone knows who you're talking about if you just say those two words. That couple made TV history.
Liking Kirstie more than Shelley is just a matter of opinion, and shouldn't determine whether Shelley is included in a reunion show.
Suppose Nicholas Colasanto didn't die and left the show for personal reasons--I think he'd have a place in the reunion.
As for Shelley holding grudges with cast and crew or vice versa, I don't buy it. She returned at the show's end and did a guest spot on Frasier. If there ever was a hatchet, I think it's long been buried.
Shelley Long has earned her place in any Cheer's reunions.
Frasier W. Crane 03-25-2002, 03:45 PM If you have cable, and you watch "E!" They had a true hollywood story on 'Cheers' And they said that Shelley only had a great relationship with Nick Colasanto, who passed away. They also stated that the other cast members were quick to dress and to the set in time, when Shelley was taking her time looking perfect and she was late. I really don't have anything against Shelley, but I think that if she would have been more 'Not Perfect' things would have worked out. Anyone want to follow on this?:seeya:
Janice 03-25-2002, 03:57 PM I've seen the E! True Hollywood Story on Cheers. I think Shelley is a perfectionist. In her defense though, it does take women longer to dress than men. Aside from Carla, whose appearance was downplayed, it was an all male cast.
I do believe there was friction between Shelley and most of the cast, but it's dissipated over the years. It was light years ago, and should have no bearing on her being included in any Cheer's reunions.
Brian Damage 03-25-2002, 09:57 PM Let's try to be realistic here. Is this REALLY a Cheers reunion or is it just another Frasier episode? This is in some ways a reunion, however, this is still the Frasier show not Cheers. And realisticly, Diane Chambers is no longer living in Boston. So what reason would she have for being there? Sam you can understand why he won't be there. I don't get Kirstie Alley not doing it or Bebe Neuwirth. (Especially if Frasier is there to see Frederick) If NBC decided to do a reunion movie then there is no excuse not to include everyone. This is just a Frasier episode.
Janice 03-25-2002, 10:41 PM I guess this is only a Frasier episode, yet it's only natural for diehard Cheer's fans to want it to be a reunion show of sorts. It's realistic thinking considering almost half the cast is going to appear. We want them all there.
As far as a reason for Diane to be in Boston, any writer could create a plausible reason--she's visiting family or friends or doing a book signing.
It would be great if Frasier had a one-hour reunion show with everyone there. The ratings would go through the roof.
It'll most likely never happen due to logistics, costs, cast issues, etc.
I can dream, can't I? lol ;)
Brian Damage 03-26-2002, 07:24 PM Hey listen, I agree with you. I wish this would be a full blown out reunion. The thing is this is just another episode of Frasier, so to have the entire cast back to do about 10-15 minutes would probably cost a fortune! I can only hope that one day they will bring back everybody for a full fledged reunion!!!!!! :-)
Janice 03-26-2002, 09:55 PM Hey listen  we cool, we cool, LOL!
Seriously--think they'll ever have a full fledged reunion?

In all seriousness, no I do not think so. I truly believe that if Ted Danson had his way, he wouldn't reprise Sam Malone again. And if there's no Sam, why bother doing a reunion movie. Don't get me wrong, the show was more than just Sam, however, he was the heart of it.
Dr. Lilith Sternin 03-29-2002, 11:55 AM I completely agree. Sam was the whole heart of the show. Without Sam, there would have been no bar. His character brought all the other characters together.
This really IS another Frasier episode and should not be considered a Cheers reunion. I'm still irate that Bebe isn't going to be on it! How can the writers justify Frasier in BOSTON and Lilith NOT making an appearance. I mean, Bebe could go all the way out to CA to film like 3 pathetic minutes of an episode, but she can't be in the episode where half the Cheers cast is going to be on?? She could have been Frasier's date to Cliff's retirement party! That IS why Frasier's going, is it not? *sigh*
*Pulls the hair out of her head* I WANT FRASIER AND LILITH BACK TOGETHER!
Samsgirl xo 03-31-2002, 02:14 PM you just made me angry now! lol that is true.. they shouldnt torture us with a reunion.. and kirstie alley was the only one who said she wouldnt reprise her role as rebecca in the future after cheers ended.. and the rest were all open and happy to participate in a reunion.. but your right.. how can they not go back to cheers and not see lilith? dont people want publicity here! i would do it!
Samsgirl xo 03-31-2002, 02:16 PM i bet you they werent even gunna do this until cheers became such a hit on nick at nite. .they probably wanted something - FAST.

I don't think that at all. I believe the Frasier writer's always had plans to return to Cheers. I think the major problems stem with the actors themselves. Many of them don't want to be stereotyped into one character. I mean, I think it's ridiculous that Kirstie Alley won't reprise Rebecca. Cheers is what really put Alley on the map, as it did for every other cast member. If it's a money issue, I'll understand because that is a lot of money to shell out for a half hour. As a fan of Cheers, I'll take what I can get!!!
Central Perk 04-27-2002, 10:28 AM I honestly think there will be a reuinon some day. It doesn't seem like a lot of the original cast has anything better to do and if theres a lot of $$$ it could happen. Shelley still having a grudge with the cast of Cheers.....I really don't think so...she came back to do the series premiere of frasier along with bebe. I don't think that they need bebe or shelley for this episode since they already guest starred this season. This could be considered a mini-reunion imo.
ThomasE 05-01-2002, 09:58 PM I wish that Lilith and Diane were there. I mean they were on the season premiere episode.

Lilith's new hair do.
Lilith: Well Fraiser, what do you think?
Fraiser.....(pauses and then points and laughs hysterically) Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!
Jimbo 05-03-2002, 08:08 PM After watching the episode this past Tuesday, I would classify it as an episode of "Fraiser, with guest appearances from the cast of Cheers", rather than a "Cheers Reunion". It would have been nice to see the rest of the cast, but I still enjoyed the show (Kirstie Alley is now the only Cheers regular who has not appeared on "Fraiser").
I don't know if the original set from Cheers still exists - probably not. At any rate, Cliff explained to Frasier that his party would not be at the bar because Sam had already booked it for a Red Sox reunion that night.
One thing that worried me: It seemed to me that George Wendt looked pretty bad. He seems to have put on a lot of weight, and his face was beet red throughout the episode (high blood pressure?). Did anyone else get this impression?
Ironically, I was in the Boston area all week, and just returned home this afternoon (Boston is one of my favorite towns). Unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity to visit the "Bull and Finch", the tavern which served as the inspiration for Cheers.
