It's so fun to look back on the way TGIF used to be a staple on ABC's weekly line-up, and especially the way it was mainly geared towards teens. It's weird how things change like that, considering now the 'new TGIF' (I don't know what they call it) has stuff like Hope & Faith and...well, I don't know what else, I don't watch it. Anyway, it's different.

What's TGIF?

TGIF was a Block of ABC Sitcoms that would air from
7:00 pm until 9:00 pm Central Time TGIF was Thank God it's Funnie

I always thought it stood for Thank God It's Friday:confused:

I just wish SOMEBODY would air reruns of it!

I'm just listing shows I watched but not necessarily liked so much as there was nothing else better, I was a teenager throughout the 90's and many shows were unbearable

I liked all of the TGIF shows....(those were some good times growing up) but my favorites were:

It's sad that out of all of the TGIF shows, only a few are released in full on DVD:

More TGIF shows seriously need to be completed on DVD! These were some good, fun shows.

Perfect Strangers is my all time favorite TGIF show.

Followed by Step By Step. Full House was better in my eyes when I was a kid. Now, I find it a bit too sappy. I still like it okay though.

TGIF went downhill in 1997, when there were more shows for teens rather than for the family.

I think what caused TGIF to go downhill was that after Sabrina the Teenage Witch premiered the year earlier, ABC in their infinite wisdom, added to other fantasy type shows in the form of You Wish (which was basically a gender reserved version of I Dream of Jeannie) and Teen Angel, which had a premise that was way too macabre for TGIF. It just showed how interchangeable ABC's Friday night line-up had become (typified by the crossover episodes involving Salem the black cat traveling through time). ABC just couldn't find another breakthrough hit to supplement the aging Boy Meets World and Sabrina. What didn't help was around this same period, CBS started their own version of TGIF called the "Block Party", which pretty much diluted the target audience even further.
