First off, the Netflix sitcom has an Asian-American named "Dong," a "gross stereotype" (http://www.thebolditalic.com/articles/7033-ubreakable-kimmy-schmidt-is-a-great-show-with-a-big-race-problem) of a character who's smart at math and speaks like Mickey Rooney from Breakfast at Tiffany's. Then there's the bizarre Native American storyline (http://www.vulture.com/2015/03/unbreakable-kimmy-schmidt-native-american.html). Jane Krakowski's character being Native American seems more offensive than funny — the jokes are supposed to be on her, but they just don't land.

The Netflix series, created by 30 Rock’s Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, brought audiences a nuanced (and hilarious) black gay man, but its Asian-American and Native-American characters are far from perfect, as are the jokes about them.
