"When the Fox show sets up conventional expectations, it's usually to defy them," says Matthew Gilbert. "Just when you think it's is a nice network sitcom about an intelligent, affable single woman looking for love and forming a workplace family in the city, an update of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, it reminds you it isn't. Rather than pulling a Ross-and-Rachel, for example, and stringing out the Mindy-Danny affair across many seasons and many breakup-makeups like most sitcoms, The Mindy Project got the couple together relatively quickly. And now, also quickly, before the end of season three, Mindy is pregnant."

The birth-givings should occur in the next season, not this season.

Yes it's certainly different from The Mary Tyler Moore Show. This pregnancy has been pretty funny so far, with them first trying to keep it a secret and then with the episode involving the priest. I hope the show stays on for several more seasons.

You see if any of you can start a petition for this show.

If this show gets renewed, then put the petition on hold. Otherwise, multiple the effort on this type of petition as much as possible!

The pregnancy plot, says Miriam Krule, was "a device designed merely as an easily-conquered hurdle for the Danny-Mindy relationship, a wild narrative stunt rather than a real, interesting plot to wrestle with. It could have been a genuinely trailblazing sitcom storyline, and Kaling seemed like just the writer to take it on. If the show comes back for Season 4, maybe she still can."
