Did everyone here, I heard on the radio today that NBC cancelled Watching Ellie and that they will show 2 more episodes and that is it. I actually liked this show. It is so much better than that Leap of Faith show. Tell me what you think of its cancellation. I hope another network picks it up.

Here's what I read this morning about the show.

NBC is taking the show off the air after two more broadcasts, then shelving the show until next season.

Since Miss Dreyfuss only wants to do 15 episodes a season, NBC wants to save the remaining episodes for next season, thus giving them a full season of "Watching Ellie" next year.

But, considering the poor ratings the show is getting, it is unlikely "Ellie" will be returning next season.

Since it's premiere, "Ellie" has had a 40% loss of viewers. That's something NBC won't stand for.

I guess they should change the title to "Is Anybody Watching Ellie?"

I think the main reason why "Ellie" is in trouble is that it's up against "Andy Richter". "Andy Richter" has, of course, won the 8:30 slot for the past 2 weeks and probably will win again this week. Maybe if "Ellie" does well after the new episode of "Frasier" at 9:30 tonight, NBC might decide to keep the show next season. Let's just hope!

The ratings for "Ellie" have improved. We'll see how tonight's double dose of the show goes over.
Maybe the show need a stronger lead-in, like "Frasier."

Watching Ellie, created by Louis-Dreyfus' husband Brad Hall, debuted in 2002 and lasted less than two seasons. Watch an entire episode (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjdWMlxySHM).

It's been 20 years since the premiere of Julia Louis-Dreyfus' failed NBC sitcom Watching Ellie, co-starring Steve Carell (https://www.primetimer.com/item/Its-been-20-years-since-the-premiere-of-Julia-Louis-Dreyfus-failed-NBC-sitcom-Watching-Ellie-co-starring-Steve-Carell-62S1DJ)

The YouTube series Forgotten Failures looks back at how Louis-Dreyfus followed Michael Richards and Jason Alexander with her own post-Seinfeld sitcom failure. Premiering in February 2002 and created by her husband Brad Hall, Louis-Dreyfus' Watching Ellie (https://web.archive.org/web/20061031125256/http://www.jumptheshark.com/w/watchingellie.htm) was a single-camera comedy that, premiering a few months after 24, also had a real-time gimmick (https://web.archive.org/web/20160827185745/http://splitsider.com/2016/04/the-crazy-story-behind-julia-louis-dreyfuss-real-time-sitcom-watching-ellie/). Co-stars included a pre-fame Carell, Louis-Dreyfus' sister Lauren Bowles and Peter Stormare. Despite bad reviews and low viewership (for 2002), Watching Ellie was renewed and retooled for a second season that looked more like a traditional sitcom. But after six episodes in 2003, Watching Ellie was canceled and Louis-Dreyfus broke the "Seinfeld Curse" with The New Adventures of Old Christine and Veep.
