"Judge Judy" Will Continue to Rake in the Millions Through 2020
by Sadie Gennis

CBS has extended its contract with everyone's favorite beacon of justice, Judge Judy Sheindlin, CBS News reports. "Judge Judy" is currently in its 19th season, and the contract extension ensures that daytime TV's top show will remain on the air through 2020.

Though CBS did not disclose the details of the deal, as of 2014 Judge Judy was raking in a whopping $47 million a year, a salary which easily makes the 72-year-old the highest-paid TV personality.

In her 2014 book What Would Judy Say? Be the Hero of Your Own Story, Sheindlin outlined how she had managed to always get exactly what she wanted during contract negotiations.

In the book, Sheindlin states she would hand executives a sealed envelope including a price and contract duration at the beginning of a meal with instructions not to open it until afterward.

"I didn't believe they would turn me down," Sheindlin wrote of the first time she used the technique. "I didn't think they could afford to. But I was also prepared to walk away."

CBS Acquires "Judge Judy" Library Rights; Extends Deal through 2021
by Denise Petski
August 8, 2017

CBS Television Distribution has acquired the massive library of "Judge Judy" from creator and star Judith Sheindlin. In addition, both sides have agreed to extend the current production deal for an additional season, through 2020-21, which will mark "Judge Judy’s" 25th season.

The agreement provides CTD with rights to over 5,200 hours of current and library programs, as well as several more seasons of future episodes of the top-rated daytime franchise. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sheindlin acquired the rights to the library in her most recent contract renewal. She tried shopping the rights, and now the studio is buying them back.

The nationally cleared strip has been the top-rated program in first-run syndication for the past eight seasons and the highest-rated court show for 21 straight years. "Judge Judy" averages more than 10 million viewers per day. The show airs throughout North America and in major markets around the world.

“Judge Judy Sheindlin is one of the all-time great stars in the history of daytime television. She’s been a part of the CBS family for over two decades and we wanted it to stay that way by acquiring her incredible library of episodes,” said Paul Franklin, President of CTD.

“We also want to thank Lisbeth Barron for her diligent work on this agreement. Finally, we’re grateful that Judy has been such an amazing collaborator – allowing us to retain her library so that CTD’s station partners will continue to benefit from this amazingly successful relationship.”

“I’m overjoyed that CBS will continue to shepherd my program and be the custodian of the library,” said Sheindlin. “They are the gold standard in television, and I’m fortunate to be in business with such talented people.”

That's a lot of face lifts.

She already seems to be off her rocker, so I hate to think what she'll be like 4 years from now. Not that long ago I was watching an episode where the defendant was talking about when a new pair of sneakers came out. Judy's response was "What do you mean they came out? They walked out on their own?!!" Come to think of it she's been kind of out of it for a really long time. I still remember about 10 years ago or so when she asked someone "What's a video game?!!" The woman isn't 1/4 as smart as she thinks she is.
