Pearland, Texas - Mia Ruffino turned 11 years old last week, but she didn't ask for presents for herself.
Instead, Mia and her parents hosted a birthday party at the Pearwood Skate Center in Pearland to take pet food donations. Mia has used her birthday to collect pet food for the past six years. "I just feel animals need to be treated more than they are and they need to be treated nicely," she said. During that time she has collected more than 5,000 pounds of dog and cat food. Her goal is to collect 1,800 pounds this year. Mia plans to deliver her donated pet food to the Houston Humane Society on Feb. 28.
