I also noticed that they never made a big deal out of his size. On Bonanza, Hoss's size was often brought to attention. Everyone knew he was the big guy that you didn't want to mess with, but Matt's size was never made a big deal. I wonder why?

Tallest guest star I can think of is Steve Forrest at 6'3".

I just saw an episode that shed some light on my own question. I saw a season 1 episode called "The Preacher," and it had Chuck Connors in it. He played a big burly fighter. From what I've seen, Connors is shown as being 6'6", but they actually played him to be slightly taller than Matt.

He beat up a guy and Matt was asking a witness who done it. the witness said he was a big guy, but he didn't say, "he's as big as you are Marshall." Again, they didn't make a big deal out of Matt's size.

What about the episode where Manute Bol fought William "The Refrigerator" Perry?

I had read that when James would stand next to somebody who was much shorter then him then James would stand in a hole so he wouldn't be too much taller then the person.

Actually James Arness was 6ft 6 his brother is Peter Graves from Mission Impossible. The only guy I can think of as being that tall is Ted Cassidy from the Adams Family. He played Lurch and stood 6ft 9.
