Last night, I watched an old tape of this episode from March 1994 about a man named Stephen Douglass who tracks and documents experimental military aircraft. On UM, Douglass displayed a photograph he took of what was termed a "donuts on a rope" contrail of which he insists is produced by the engine of a top secret spy plane.
Now, I know this may sound nuts, but I have seen this exact same contrail numerous times where I live in South Florida. Granted, Douglass' documentation of the contrail was from 1992. Am I correct in assuming that the air force has been using this design for awhile and it's no longer a big deal?
