I am unemployed! Have only about 2 months left on my claim. I should be looking for a job, being a housewife right now!

Bonnie,

I feel your pain. I'm unemployed myself and living in a less than ideal arrangement.

I applied for jobs constantly. I either never hear back or receive a quick e-mail stating I didn't get it.

I am so down, but tough times never last. I'm hoping things get better.

I know it is really hard these days. With the economy and so many people out of work applying for the same job. And these days with the applying on line it's like who knows? You don't all the time know if your resume is even being read or not?

But stick with it , don't give up and something will come along for you!;) I need to get on the stick too. I'm kind of in denial that I won't be getting unemployment money that much longer!

I'm afraid you just have to put a metaphorical two fingers up to them and start all over again. The problem with capitalism is that it purports to be fair but is in fact very unfair. If society were a meritocracy I might just be able to stand it,but you will find that someone got a job because of who he knew and not because he was the best candidate. It's why I'm politically left of centre and would never vote Republican or its equivalent the Conservative Party in Britain.

I'm really sorry Reb. In Europe we have millions of young Eastern Europeans moving westwards because there's just no work for them in their home countries. There should really have been a new Marshall Plan after the fall of the Berlin Wall but the politicians were found wanting. Now it's almost impossible for the traditional working classes to get a job because employers can just hire someone for six months, get rid of them and find someone else willing to take their place. There should be laws in place to prevent this,as well as giving everyone a work placement so at least they can gain work experience at the start of their career.

The problem is that the bosses, the executives, the CEOs, the ones who sit in fancy offices.....they don't care about the workers.

It's that simple. Does a business executive, who leaves work Friday at noon to begin a long glorious weekend partying and buying things, care about the worker who is stuck there until 6pm and comes home to a small and poor living environment and who can't afford to do anything over the weekend?

The business executive is happy in his/her own little world. That's what happens.
I agree that those at the top are in their own world. And why should they change anything? I do have sympathy for the small businessman who runs on tight profit margins but have no truck with larger employers who won't pay a decent living wage.

RebZissel, i definitely agree with you that the people in charge at the jobs don't give a damn about the employees. I was laid off at my last full time job in June of last year and i had been there almost 9 years. I was laid off because management wanted to save money by getting a contractor to replace me which was a hispanic guy. I was pissed i lost my job because i wanted to retire from there and i loved my job. It's very hard to find a job that you love. Now i can't get unemployment money because the job i had after i left my full time job, i got fired and i had been there only 3 months.

I'm gonna try to get government money because i need another income because i only have a part time job in the evening and it's not enough money to take care of me. I gotta see a psychiatrist next month on March 3rd and i'm gonna have her fill out some papers i was given by social services so i can get government money because i may not work a full time job again. I'm gonna apply for SSI money also and i'm gonna apply for section 8 housing in the suburbs because i don't wanna live in the projects. Too much crime goes on in the projects because of ignorant black men refusing to act right and get a job. RebZissel, i like your picture of Henry Winkler from Happy Days tv show. I saw your comments when you said you don't have a place to live. Are you staying at a homeless shelter or are you living with somebody? I hope you aren't living on the streets because nobody should have to live on the streets because it's not safe.

I remember on r&b group The Ojays Put Your Hands Together song, Eddie Levert said we got to pray for all the people sleeping in the streets and pray for all the people who don't have enough to eat. The Ojays are from my hometown state Ohio but they're from Canton. They moved to Cleveland in the 70's to a suburb called Shaker. Eddie who's the lead singer, i met his sons Gerald and Sean that were in the group Levert before they died because they lived in Cleveland. William Powell who was a member of The Ojays died young in 1976. I forgot how he died.

It's really sad that the government doesn't help unemployed and homeless people. They could care less about helping them and that's why unemployment, homelessness and crime are always gonna be in america because nothing is being done by the government to get rid of these problems. These problems are really bad in black neighborhoods and it's always been like that. Rich people have always had the mentality that they're not gonna help poor people and that's just the way it is. I understand there's some poor people especially blacks who don't mind getting welfare checks and food stamps but most poor people that are getting that would rather have a job and a safe place to live. It's sad that poor blacks who don't wanna be in that situation will be living like that until they die and they'll be living in the projects until they die.

I am disgusted that young people are not offered employment to match their skills and here in Britain attitudes are polarizing with an election looming and guess who are the whipping boys..http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-31500763

If anyone wants to vent about unemployment, then go right ahead.

We all should be employed gainfully. Unfortunately, the real word is not so compassionate.

The post-war years were an optimistic era in which couples would have large families, one wage sufficed and mom stayed at home to provide security for the children. Now I'm afraid you can cut the atmosphere with a knife in the workplace it is so bitchy and we have to be lucky we have a job,but it's really not what life should be about. I make no apology in posting a link to better times, whether members think I'm wallowing in sentimentality or not.http://youtu.be/JfTnf4AiN4Y

The traditional support networks for men in particular have disappeared as the well-paid manufacturing jobs have been shipped abroad and the devil take the hindmost attitude prevails in society.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-31533551

I've been contacting everyone I know for help.

I had one "friend" for years who was older and I asked him for help. He briefly bragged that he might be offered a partnership in his company and is currently a hiring manager. He said something to the effect that he doesn't have much time to look over each c.v/resume. What an arrogant jerk.

He just left me hanging. I knew him for so many years. I visited him a few times in his wealthy suburban home. I always made sure to come with a bottle of wine or something nice simply to show my appreciation that he invited me.

Now he's an arrogant jerk enjoying his money. I knew the guy for 20 years. He just doesn't care while I suffer and he sits on top of the mountain enjoying his life.
Reb have you thought about moving area,or retraining? Sorry if this sounds patronizing: it's really not meant to be.

RebZissel, where do you live? You live in America or overseas? Have you thought about seeing a psychiatrist? I think if you were to see a psychiatrist that you could get government assistance and housing because that's what i'm gonna try to get soon. I got a appointment with a psychiatrist next Wednesday and she said she's gonna help me get my own place and I have some papers for her to fill out from social services so I can get government money because I may not get a full time job again. She's gonna diagnose me and see if I have a mental problem which is preventing me from getting a job. I'm gonna look into applying for SSI. If she does help me get housing, I hope she gets me a apartment in the suburbs because I don't wanna live in the projects with ignorant black men because it's not safe.

I apply for jobs all over the world. Geography doesn't mean much. Everything is online.

I have applied for a wide array of jobs, but it all comes down to one thing: you need the EXACT experience they are seeking. Otherwise, they delete your resume or mark it for a rejection e-mail.

Yes true. It's all who you know and who you socialize with. I don't know if your location of Machu Pichu is a joke, but have you thought about TEFL? It's only a 4 week course and can take you all over the world. It's not so well paid but it would be some kind of an income.

It's Teaching English as a Foreign Language Isiah. We Brits are one of the most endebted nations on earth and have been selling our national heritage in the form of land, houses and paintings for donkey's years. One product we do have is a language many foreigners wish to learn,so it's one employment opportunity worth considering.

Besides the money part of it. It sometimes gets BORING being home all day!!! I was really bored today! I didn't need anything at the store, my housework was caught up, no clothes needed to be washed, and my friend who is retired wasn't around today!

Western societies have come to accept unemployment as a fact of life, when really there is no need for it. It is a hierarchical system which pits those on low paid employment against the unemployed, who are there to frighten those in work at the bottom, whilst the gap between rich and poor has never been greater. Why on earth do eighty people own the same as 3.6 billion:they should be relieved of half of this immediately to reduce Western debt.http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/meet-the-80-people-who-are-as-rich-as-half-the-world/

I have been in the same job for what will be going on 20 years this Summer. I am an Anesthesiologist at a local hospital and I enjoy my work.

To all those still looking for employment continue to work hard each day as looking for a job can be more of a full time thing then actually working one.

Good Luck Everyone

RebZissel, you're exactly right that rich people don't care about poor people and that's never gonna change. KurtfromPitts, that's terrible. You've been unemployed for 14 years? Wow that really sucks. Have you been getting unemployment money? I hate this world and rich evil bas*ards that don't care about helping poor and unemployed people get jobs and housing. I'll be glad when I'm dead and that'll probably happen sooner than later because i don't see myself living to be 50 or older.
