Why did ABC cancel Ellen it was funny before she came out and when she came out it got even funnier.

I'm not sure why it was canceled. My guess would be ABC did not want to deal with a 'gay' television series at the time. But television needed and still needs shows like this, so that would be a stupid reason! :happyface :happyface :happyface

I beleive it was cancelled because it's ratings went down the tube. I think the American audience just wasn't ready for an openly gay lead character with all the gay jokes. To bad.

I think If ellen was released two years later it would be here now perhaps. Now we have show's like queer as folk and Will and Grace which are popular, so ellen wouldn't be alone. But then queer as folk and will and grace are gay men shows, maybe women are thought to be more perverted whent hey're gay. Then again, another factor to ellen's cancellation was degeneres couldn't cope with it all. I think that when she decided to do sitcoms again she should have picked up where she left off, and tried to continue 'Ellen' on another channel, after all, ellen didn't porperly end, it was just another episode, which happened to be the last.

who knows, maybe there'll be a reunion show, with one final episode an hour long

I seriously think the networks had it out for her. Whic is too bad because I think she has talent. She is Naturally Funny. I have seen her stand up routines and they have had me in stitches. I watched that new series she had on CBS and it was really good and decent. I saw her recently on Hollywood Squares adn she was center for two weeks, they should have left it that way. She is great for cnter Square. I hear she is going to have her own Talk Show, and I indubetally wishe her luck I think she has a lot to offer to the world of entertainment.

Also i think Ellen helped pave the way for us to have shows Like Will and Grace,,,,because if you think about it, the early nineties and mostly eighties and definitely anything before that , being gay was looked down upon, many stars his their lives, stars liek Rock Hudson for example. Rosie came out, I think she is a great talent. It is just a sad thing that people are too insecure about themselves that they push many of these talented people away.
