Singer and actor David Cassidy has filed for bankruptcy, People reports.
In papers filed Wednesday and obtained by the magazine, the former "Partridge Family" star says he has assets and debt up to $10 million. He owes $290,000 to Wells Fargo Bank, $21,000 to American Express and $17,000 to Citi Bank.
He's also in $102,000 debt to a Florida-based lawyer.
Cassidy, 64, has battled substance abuse issues in recent years. He was charged with DUI in November 2010, again in August 2013 and, most recently, in January 2014. He checked into rehab shortly thereafter, and his third wife, Sue Shifrin-Cassidy, filed for divorce the following month.
The former teen heartthrob has sold more than 30 million records. Cassidy most recently appeared on "Celebrity Apprentice" in 2011.

Me.
Coffeecup 08-15-2015, 08:37 PM I don't know a thing about bankruptcy. How does it work. OH no I am fine with my money, not asking that. It is just what, You file, all debts are cleared and how do you start over? Are all the people you did owe are left in the dust??
OH Nuts! 08-16-2015, 12:09 PM It's a shame he's having troubles; I hope he works them out. Also hope he works the oldie's conventions, as he probably still has many fans.

It depends. There are secured and unsecured debts. The secured debts are not discharged. Examples of secured debts are mortgages, student loans, and any creditor who may have filed a lien against you prior to the filing of the bankruptcy. Many other debts, like credit card debt, for example, are discharged.
Marvo301 08-16-2015, 05:40 PM I guess David has a lot in common with his character, Keith Partridge, who was always in debt to his family members, Mr. Kincaid, and anyone else who he could get to loan him money.
His daughter has that ARROW money, and a bunch of other screen credits. Can she float a loan?

The CW show "Arrow".
Bonniegirl 08-21-2015, 02:23 PM Wow. He has been arrested several times for drunk driving too. I really think he has an alcohol problem! Probably that is why his finances are so mismanaged now. His judgment must be off!
Poor guy, I hope he gets himself together!
biffbronson 08-21-2015, 05:24 PM As bad as things appear for David, I can't help but think about how his dad Jack died -- reportedly, smoking in his bed. While still in his fifties.
Anyway, it seems like the bigger the star, the higher the debt -- and at one time David was a tremendously popular teen heartthrob, with his own David Cassidy comic book series from Charlton!! :)

David's later years in life have been tough, one problem on top of another.

When he was on top of the world he wasn't happy. That's just the way he is.

That was horrible! What a way to die! Apparently Jack was drunk while he was smoking in bed! :( He had a bad drinking problem as well! :( And he was Bi Polar ! :(

Jack was not in bed. He was on the coach. His alcohol level was not high. Jack was found near the porch. I do not know where you get your information but it does not relate to David.

The only thing that wasn't correct was that Jack was on the couch not in the bed! It relates to David because Jack was his Dad and it was a tragic situation! :(
From Wikipedia
By 1976, Cassidy was living alone in a penthouse apartment in West Hollywood.
According to ex-wife Shirley Jones, on December 11, 1976, Cassidy asked her over for drinks, but she declined his invitation. He then ate dinner alone at an Italian restaurant. Cassidy returned to his apartment by himself, by which time he was drunk. In the early morning hours of December 12, Cassidy lit a cigarette and fell asleep on his Naugahyde couch.[10] He then dropped the cigarette, which ignited the couch. The flames quickly spread throughout the apartment and the building.[4] A charred body, burned beyond recognition, was found in the doorway of the apartment

We all have our own takes. Mine is he experienced the two extremes-each with its own set of problems. I don't think he's naturally unhappy - he just has a lot of baggage to deal with. It sounds like he's trying to deal with it and clearly has more self-awareness than his dad. And while that is fine and good it has to be backed up by healthy actions. He's a troubled soul who wants to get out from the rubble. I wish him the best and hope he succeeds.

He was on the Coach ( not the couch, but the COACH)?

I will correct that he accidentally ignited a couch, not a bed -- but the fact remains that he fell asleep while holding a lit cigarette...!
(If you want to get into insignificant corrections, "near the porch" is not quite the same as in the apartment doorway. An apartment with a "porch" -- ??? That's not possible, unless you mean a balcony.)
I never made any statement about Jack's "alcohol level." It was an accidental death, regardless of whether he was drunk or not -- and the info comes from none other than Shirley Jones.

Something genetic must be going on.
Also, David's mom (his biological mom) reportedly had dementia and eventually died from it.
For quite a while now it has seemed as if David Cassidy is "No longer with us."
