Modern Family has been the little darling of ABC since its first season in 2009. This comedy show, until late, has also been the only comedy to win at almost every television award show. Modern Family won three Primetime Emmys last September but came home empty at the Golden Globe Awards and the SAG Awards. So what’s up? Modern Family has competition with newer programming, and therefore this ABC winning sitcom could use some new and fresh ideas. Here are five ways to fix Modern Family.

Modern Family starring Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell airs on ABC Wednesdays at 9 pm ET.

Fast Age Little Joe to a Toddler

Little Joe is a really cute baby, but he is more of a prop than an actor. Introducing just a little older child in his place will bring more chance for interaction for everyone else in the family and thus the possibility for many more laughs. It was when the Olsen twins started talking that Full House became tops of its time. Just think of the trouble he can get into with his big brother Manny (Rico Rodriguez) leading the way!

Evict Steve Zahn & Company

Modern family has gotten all it can get from Ronnie (Steve Zahn) and his family next door to the Dunphy’s (Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell). Yes, we get it, they are the antithesis to the Dunphy’s. But the pot smoking and all the poor behavior has run its course. Move on Modern Family, and move someone else in next door.

Promote Fred Willard to Series Regular

Speaking of next door, Phil’s (Ty Burrell) dad, Frank (Fred Willard), would be the ideal neighbor. Willard has become a character that we all watch for to return. Modern Family could monopolize on his stellar comic timing. So, Modern Family give us what we want! More Willard spells more fun!

Designate ‘Cam’ to The Family Breadwinner

Cam (Eric Stonestreet) just loves clowning around, much to Mitchell’s (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) chagrin. Wouldn’t it be great fun if Cam got a TV gig as a daytime clown for a children’s TV cable channel? As Mitchell may first be against the idea, it would give him time to be with Lily full time and some fun could be had with his different parenting techniques as well as the daily troubles a TV clown might have.

Find Claire a BFF Who Shares Her Neurotic Side

What is something better than one Neurotic character? The answer is two neurotic characters! The hit comedy Frasier proved that to perfection. If Modern Family could find just the right actress, they could put to use some creative ways to even make more fun at Claire’s (Julie Bowen) expense. Twice the Claire’s equals twice the fun and laughs.

Concerning Cam, I would have him become a successful high school football coach who becomes very successful and is offered and accepts a Big Time football assistant coaching job like at USC, UCLA, or if cannot tie in, Phil's alamater "Bulldog State".

I love rednecks on TV! I like Steve Zahn. Just not right for this show.

Fred Willard is awesome and he would do the show in a heartbeat if he is healthy.
