My wife and I are looking into getting one, our 28-year-old Sony Superset picture tube is finally going. We have limited space where to put the TV, so we aren't looking for a very big one.

Presently we are looking at VIZIO Model# M422I-B1 Smart TV (42").
I heard Vizio was American made, but have found that most of it is made in China and assembled in the USA.

Is there an American made television anymore?

Size of the TV depends on the size of the room you have the TV in, if you have a very small room a big TV can be overpowering.

We have a 60" Mitsubishi 3DTV in the living room. I think the model is now discontinued, we've had it a few years. My wife and I watch a lot of movies, including 3D so it's definitely been a great TV for us. That's our main TV, we also have a 40" Haier flat screen in the family room, and my daughter has the same in her room.
I still use an old tube-style TV that I have set up in the computer room for watching VHS.

We have a 46 inch Samsung in the living room ( To me that is pretty big, not overly big , but fine for the room size) And a 42 inch Toshiba in the bedroom ( I think 42? A little smaller than the living room). These sizes are fine for our little bungalow house.

Prior to August 2013, I used a Sanyo cathode ray tube-style TV set. Now I have a Vizio flat-panel TV set. A reason why people decide to have their bulky cathode-ray-tube TV set replaced with a flat-panel TV set is because a flat-panel TV set does not take up as much space as a CRT TV set.

(Also, sometimes I confuse the terms "flat-panel" and "flat-screen".

We still have three old "big" TV sets left in the house. But we only use one of those at the moment. But we also have one flat screen TV, and that one is only three years old. We also have one older "big" computer screen and a newer flat one.

Yes,and that's only one of many problems with flatscreens. I'd rather watch TV on a very average CRT TV(regular TV set),than the best flatscreen TV money can buy.

To answer the original question,we have 3 CRT TVs. However I've tried 2 flatscreens and returned them.I don't know where they make TVs these days,but I'm guessing most are Not made in America,Europe or Japan anymore.I'm certainly no expert,and sadly these days you almost have to be an expert to buy something as simple as a TV set.The only advice I can give is if you get one,buy it from a place that has a good return policy because flatscreens can be complicated and they're very fragile.Also it's probably best to stay away from an off brand.Vizio sounds like an off brand to me.

I have a Westinghouse 42" flatscreen that I got just last September and it looks nice, only thing I hate is that it makes the resolution of older TV shows look like a worn out VHS tape.

I hate that look too but for some reason my TV doesn't have the image like that and I'm just using an ordinary HDMI cable.

Thanks Furienna.It used to be one of the main advantages of newer innovations was they were often more simple to use on top of doing something better or different etc..That's certainly not the case anymore. And not only TVs but so many other things. I've always been a little on the old fashioned side,but over the past 15 years or so especially, I've come to realize that New Does Not Mean Better.It often means the opposite in my opinion.

Yeah, and I have always felt that it was easier to record stuff from TV with VHS than with DVD.

Vizio is far from an off brand. They have been in business since 2002 with the headquarters based in Irvine, CA. They have good quality TV's.They have been sponsor's in the BCC Championship games and I believe the Superbowl for years. The only problem that I have is that now 23% of the company is owned by AM-Tech Techologies which is Taiwan-based and most of their parts come from Mexico and China. I was hoping to get an American made and had thought "Vizio" was American made, but not sure any more.

Since I started this thread, I have found out that the Vizio (model# M422I-B1 42" 1080P Smart TV) is one of the most popular TV'S sold in Northern America and everywhere is almost "sold out." Our local Sam's Club had them on back order, but won't be able to get any more in the near future... They had a price of $378.00 (which was a steal), now the cheapest I can find it, is $457.54 on Amazon......I guess when you snooze~~you lose,,,,cause I lost.:(

I have a 2 Vizios and they work well. I see them in every electronic store. They are well know in the east.
