NBC is considering ordering 10 new episodes of the Dick Wolf drama that ended in 2010 after 20 seasons, according to Deadline. If it does return, Law & Order could break the tie it has with Gunsmoke for longest-running primetime series. Deadline says NBC "has been exploring the possibility of re-assembling the cast from the early years of the series," including Sam Waterston and Chris Noth.

"I've heard that they will if they can. There are a lot of moving parts," Waterston tells The Hollywood Reporter. "If they can get it all assembled I understand that the network would be pleased and happy, and I know Dick Wolf would."

"Law & Order" Revival Series Update: "Everybody Wants To Do It"
by Andy Swift
August 13, 2015
Following reports that NBC is eyeing a limited "Law & Order" revival series, featuring original cast members of the long-running franchise, creator Dick Wolf on Thursday offered a brief update.
“As you’ve heard, everybody wants to do it,” Wolf told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills. “It is a question of … most of the people involved are very successful in their careers. To try to get everything in sequence is much more difficult than it looks on the outside. I am always an optimist. I would love to do it if we can make it work.”

“We’ve been talking about it on and off for the past year or so, trying to figure out how to do it right,” says NBC boss Robert Greenblatt. “We would only do a close-ended [season]. I don’t t think we’d start the show up again. Nothing’s ruled out, but I think initially we’re thinking, let’s just do another set of episodes and see what we have and take it from there.”
