If Travers had become the Landlord instead of Furley, he would have been such a letch to Janet and Chrissy. I could picture him never leaving them alone.

He'd be okay with Jack living there, but he would have made so many unwelcomed advances toward Janet and Chrissy.

What would have been funny was if Janet and Chrissy in order to get Travers off their back would have told him they were lesbian lovers.

That would have been funny. Jack would have no longer had to pretend to be gay, but then Janet and Chrissy would have had to pretend to be lesbians in order to keep Travers off their back.

Then again, maybe not. For some reason I just think the network wouldn't have gone for it. That maybe would have been pushing the envelope too far for tv in 1980. But it would have kept the show more interesting than what happened after Furley came on anyway.

That's a really interesting twist. I think it would have worked, too. Although jokes about lesbians aren't nearly as easy as those about gay men. Even acknowledging women are having sex, let alone with each other, was especially taboo then.

I think Travers was only acting like that because he didn't know them and assumed that they were freaks because they lived with one guy

If he had been the landlord he would have known Jack was gay because of Roper and would not seen the girls as freaks

You forget that Travers saw Jack flirting with fellow female students all the time so he already would know Jack wasn't gay.

He would not have known because he would be the landlord not the dean of a cooking school

That would require ignoring everything that happened in the three seasons the Ropers were there.

Imagine it's 1979 and The Ropers left for their spin-off. Dean Travers already made several appearances as the Dean of the Cooking School and witnessed Jack and his interaction with the ladies many times. Bringing him in as the Landlord would have meant him knowing Jack wasn't gay because he knew about his living arrangement already. If anything he liked it and would want to get in on it. Thus Janet and Chrissy would have had to tell him they were lesbians to get him to back off.

I wasn't talking about Travers leaving the cooking school to be a landlord, I mean he being introduced for the first time in season 4 the way furley was when he took over as the new landlord

That would have been totally re-writing the history of the show.

Who would have been The Dean of Jack's cooking school in Seasons 1-3 if Dean Travers wasn't going to show up until Season 4?

I think it would have worked just fine with Travers transitioning from being Jack's cooking school Dean to Landlord.
