I just joined this forum to ask a random question:

How many Bewitched episodes do you think were meant for St. Patrick's Day?

As far as I know, no episodes actually mention St. Patrick's Day, but I can see the number being between 1 and 3.

First of all, there's "The Leprechaun" from season 2. I'm 95% sure this was meant for St. Patrick's Day, because it aired on March 17, and it's all about a shoe-making, gold-seeking leprechaun having run-ins with various Irish people.

Then there's "If the Shoe Pinches" from season 6, about the shillelagh-wielding leprechaun Endora commissions to give Darrin shoes that make him lazy. As far as I know, these are the only episodes with leprechauns (unless you count "Samantha's Wedding Present" from season 5, when an Irishman thought tiny Darrin was a leprechaun). It also seems very random for Endora to get someone else to do her work, especially a leprechaun! These reasons make me suspect that it was meant for St. Patrick's Day. However, unlike the other holiday episodes (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas), this episode didn't air immediately before the holiday. It didn't even air immediately after it, but a whole nine days after, on March 26.

Then there's one I don't think most people thought of, "Out of the Mouths of Babes" from season 7. This episode's focus is mainly Darrin being turned into a little boy, but all throughout there are references to Irish stew, and Darrin's client is a stereotypical Irishman who has to fly to Dublin the next day. Although this episode is less Irish than the other two, it actually aired closer to St. Patrick's Day than "If the Shoe Pinches" (on March 25).

(Oddly enough, Bewitched isn't the only show with Irish-themed episodes that aired just after the holiday; a 1968 episode of The Flying Nun, "May the Wind Be Always at Your Back," aired on March 28, and randomly had lots of Irish elements, even though it took place in Puerto Rico.)

What do you think? Were "If the Shoe Pinches" and "Out of the Mouths of Babes" intended for St. Patrick's Day? If they aired in, say, October, I would say no; but since they aired in March, I'm more inclined to say yes.

If they aired in March they were probably meant for St. Patrick's Day. Bewitched seemed to enjoy doing holiday episodes.

Why not a marathon of all three?
