I remember a case I'm almost positive was on Unsolved Mysteries. It was a case that even had experts do an experiment in contemporary time. From what I remember from the camera footage, it was around mid 90's. It had to do with a white guy that may have killed a woman in his car. I think it was in a jeep or something. What sticks out in my mind is the experiment. They tested whether the guy could have killed the woman in his car by putting her seat back and he choked her or whatever. And something having to do with a seatbelt maybe.

This was the Alex Kelly case. He didn't kill anyone, but he was accused of raping two women. The car experiment was because he raped his first known victim in a car and she claimed he was holding onto her throat the whole time, including when he lowered the backseat. The experiment was done after mistrial to see if the crime could be pulled off the way she said it did. Ultimately, the second jury decided to convict. Kelly was paroled in 2007.

Warning, his photo is pretty terrifying in this link. That stare.

I should point out that his victims weren't women, they were underage girls. There were also more than 2, although UM only mentioned 2.

I thought the first victim was 16, and the second was 19, but I'm basing my memory off the American Justice episode I saw years and years ago.

I had no idea there were more than 2 victims, but I'm not surprised. :(

The only thing that annoyed me was Kelly's smirky smile as he walked into court with his high school girlfriend, but it's been a while since I've watched it.

Thanks. I remember seeing this once or maybe twice in the 90's.

I'll admit I haven't seen the segment in years, but I just thought all the focus over whether the seat latch could operate a certain way was supposed to prove or disprove that these women were attacked was absurd.

Agreed.

That was pretty irritating how they acted like that made or broke the case.
